It used to not do that, did they mess with the damage with ghast and creeper explosions, if so how can I edit it myself easily to change it back to normal?
I kill creepers as normal, but that is may be cause I am used to it. They never get to sneak up or explode, I am just that used to dying. :biggrin.gif:
However, do you use Mac or Windows, or Linux so I can help you with editing the damage.

Mac, I know how to get to my jar file, and I am on pre release 4.

In PreRelease versions, yes they did. Unarmored, a direct ghast hit will kill you outright. Creeper explosions will kill you from twice the distance they used to.
Get yourself a suit of Iron armor. Iron's plentiful nowadays and there's not much use for it now that you can get minecart tracks from shafts. You will survive direct hits from Ghasts and/or explosions from creepers if you are properly suited up.
Yeah- so cool they come out with 'maintenance' game mechanics that do very little to improve the game, then have to change the game to force you to use them.

Or, play on normal/easy.
Um, Creepers have always been able to one hit kill you on Hard difficulty. Since they were first made.
As for Ghasts, it does make sense that on Hard, they would one hit kill you as well.
Now, on Normal, a creeper can still one hit kill you as well, I don't know how they could have made that do any more damage. :smile.gif:
On Easy, in earlier versions of Minecraft, a Creeper will do 5 hearts of damage. Did they change it in the Pre-release to do even more?
Because I agree with Evil Hamster.
This is putting aside that Enchanting/alchemy makes sense at all at being a required thing. Which is the only valid way that monsters should be strengthened.

That's the quitessence of balancing, but you make it sound like it was a bad thing. Deal with it, it's standart in game development and there is no other solution than just not to add more content.

Feel free if you to ^ my posts if you find them helpful.
I think If you get MCP (Minecraft Coder Pack) you can open the EntityCreeper.java file and edit how much damage creepers give you. You need 1.8.1 though, because theres no 1.9pre4 version yet.

Um, you don't know what Quintessence means, do you?
Balance is something this game needs, I agree.
The addition of enchanting and alchemy should be optional. Making the game force you to use them is the complete and total opposite of balance.
It's a perpetual cycle.
Forcing an optional addition is the Antithesis of balance.
I thought they did the opposite with Ghasts, I have noticed recently that they do a lot less damage to the environment.
People are not the environment though. :smile.gif:
Like I said, if they're dangerous on Hard difficulty, that's fine. Makes sense.
It's hard difficulty, I mean.
I've died quite a bit on Easy, I think the game's fine on that difficulty.

It's NOT balancing.
There's a reason I call it maintenance.
Maintenance is work done to keep performance at the basic level.
By decreasing weapon damage and forcing the use of potions/enchantments to keep the same level of performance- they have added a HUGE amount of maintenance to the game.
Maintenance is not fun, challenging or balancing. It's just boring. It detracts from the game without adding anything.
Of course it is possible to enhance your abilities by the same methods and that's what options like enchantments/potions should be for. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about keeping the 'basic' level of performance.

This is true. They kill you from farther away now though. Prior to the recent damage changes, you could survive a creeper explosion from ~5 blocks away. Now, you die from 7+ blocks away. Assuming no armor.

though, ghasts seem to be more rare in my world.
However, do you use Mac or Windows, or Linux so I can help you with editing the damage.

Does anyone know how to edit the damage?
