I've never really tried collecting EXP. Though I've always wanted to. I reckon 70 has been my maximum (good ender dragon EXP + already had some levels)
How hard would it be to get to level 1000 under unmodded means?

You'd need to collect 4,339,720 XP to reach level 1000*; for comparison, the most XP that I've collected in any world is 3,920,679 and I've spent 143.18 real-time days on it (this is after I made my mod which separately tracks your lifetime XP; another world with 22.46 days of playtime resulted in a total of 708,515 XP accumulated; more recently, I accumulated XP at the rate of over 6,000 per play session over a one week period of caving, which included an average of 3,300 ores mined and 432 hostile mobs killed per day, which could be seen as the high-end of "legit" XP gain (without the use of farms). Of course, I've never gotten much higher than level 70 (aside from killing the Ender Dragon, which gives 78 levels in 1.6.4 but only 68 since 1.8#)
*Formula (for level 30+) = 4.5 * level^2 - 162.5 * level + 2220 = XP required to reach level
#Prior to 1.8 you only need 3,350,720 XP to reach level 1000 (3.5 * level^2 - 151.5 * level + 2220)
195, which I have remained at for more than a year now... Hopefully it stays that way! No more deaths for now.

LP series? Not my style! Video series? Closer, but not quite. Survival journal, maybe? That's better. Now in Season 4 of the Legends of Quintropolis Journal (<< click to view)!! World download and more can be found there.
I'm not really certain what my highest was. 70-something? 90-something? Low 100-something? If I ever crossed into triple digit territory, it wasn't by much.
My max has been 80 something.. After killing Ender dragon, and not needing the levels to enchant right away so took some time before I started to use letters..
I see no reason to get high. I want to be able to rename items and enchant bits for fun without thinking I'm losing levels so I shouldn't..

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
135. I didn't knew how to enchant at the time, or maybe I did, but didn't have ressources for it.
No farming.
295 was my max w afk gold farm
level 1250 with my afk gold farm. Currently level 1214 after renaming a lot of stacks of items for my large auto storage system.
