In my new world that I am currently playing on, there have been no hostile mobs. No, i'm not on peaceful, i'm actually playing on Hardcore. Even still, not 1 hostile mob, not in the Overworld and not in the Nether. There are not too many passive mobs either, only 8 in my pen and very few in the surrounding area. Any ideas why hostile mobs won't spawn? I'm playing on 1.9 pre-release 3.

"Yea? Well I can name 15, and it's still flawless!"
Look underground. They're always there.
If you use mods, that might be the cause.
There is a very large cave system I have been exploring and not once was I attacked or did I see a hostile mob. Also, i'm on vanilla Minecraft not one mod.

You could use F3 to look after mobs underground.
There could be an isolated cavern containing a group of slimes, there's a maximum capacity on how many mobs can exist, so maybe some slimes are taking up the places left. Slimes don't always despawn you know.

Actually, creature ID's no longer appear after 1.8, even when you press F3. At least that's what happens to me.

F3 no longer displays the mob numbers since 1.8
But yea, that could be it, there just all isolated underground. If that the case then they should de-spawn after some time. even slimes do eventually.
I think it's a 1.9 glitch, it is a pre-release after all. the whole objective of releasing it early is to let players find glitches to fix.
I updated to 1.9 pre-release 4 and the first thing that happened was a spider jockey dive bombing me from the roof of my house... :dry.gif: So, pre-release 3 was my issue.

I'm not talking about that one, I'm talking about the E for Entities above the coordinates. Shows how many entities are on the screen. I know the ID-thing is gone.

Talking about the E-thing, not the ID-thing.
Mobs despawn when they're more than 32 blocks away from you I think, slimes don't despawn unless they're like 100 blocks away or something.
