So the other day, my friend was telling me that he spawned a BRAND new world, and the first thing he did was make a small underground house (Like most normal Minecraftians) And he said he heard the noises a Nether Portal makes. So he starts digging underground, and digging, and digging, until he hears it really loud, then he said he found a big room with a Nether Portal in it. And he JUST spawned that world! In Minecraft Beta 1.8, can Nether Portals randomly spawn? (I bet you don't believe me, as I first didn't believe my friend, but he insisted, and isisted, and he's not a very good lier, so I have no choice but to believe him) Come on my fellow Minecraftians! Help me out with this mystery!!
I see several possible explanations for this:
1: You were tricked/trolled/etc. (your friend built the portal or something along those lines)
2: Your friend had a mod installed, if there is one that does this.
3: Your friend had a world with this structure, and deleted it, and the new world was made with the same name as the old one, and files were leftover from the old save file.
4: There is actual code that does this.
5: You're trolling.
Now, if your friend could provide a picture, that would be good. (Please tell him to hit f3 before taking the screenshot, it shows the seed and coordinates, making it so we can check this ourselves)
I don't know what the idiots above me are going off about. There is a bunch we don't know about 1.9 yet. It might be a new feature that Notch added or something.

It's happend but normally you have to make a portal first :tongue.gif:
It happens sometimes, I once found one next to two connected dungeons. One dungeon was a zombie dungeon, the other was a skeleton dungeon. The portal was right in front of the entrance, so it looked kind of like the zombies and skeletons were coming out of the Nether. I nearly crapped myself.

The "old world does not completely deleted"-error happened to me before and is around for some time. Ask your friend if he had a portal at this elevation on one of his previous maps.

Feel free if you to ^ my posts if you find them helpful.
And just so every one knows it is proably not a chunk copying over. It may be but the chances of that are highly unlikely. This has happend to me before D: Normally though you have to already have made a portal so idrk :S
Well, somebody made a thread yesterday about how he found a portal frame underground because lava and water met up, he even had pics. So, in theory, this can happen legit! (meaning no "copy chink glitch", trolling)

I believe you have been trolled.

Theoretically it is not even possible that naturally-formed obsidian can be in the shape that is appropriate for a portal. Not to mention a working portal requires *FIRE*, which definitely does not form naturally.

It IS possible. Blocks around lava can ignite on fire if they meet certain standards (not much) and you can find a naturally formed lava frame in the world. I know because somebody posted a thread with pictures showing a bunch of natural obsidian with some of the pieces arranged like a portal. The only thing was that there was a cobble block in the frame, so it couldn't have worked, but if it wasn't there, it could have because the lava had a chance of igniting the obsidian frame, activating the portal.
If not, you`ve been tricked.
We'd need a seed and coordinates to confirm.
What he said. Pictures or it did'nt happen

1.8, not 1.9.
Happened to me all the time before I figured out that new seed != new world sometimes when new world name == old world name...
I believe you have been trolled.

Yep. Herobrine myth is dead, onto the spawning portals myth.
pictures of the room and the portal can't be counted as proof that its true as he could easily have dug a large room and made a portal in it.
