Its cool that its rare. Makes you appreciate it even more when you seee one :biggrin.gif:
yes but they are TOO rare considering how many people havnt seen them yet includeing all the people in this thread and me and i do vein mineing below level 16
Trying to get games written for windows to work on a Linux machine is like trying to put a diaper on an incontinent buffalo. Sure, you might get it all done, but you'll certainly be left with a huge mess, and it's very time consuming.
I finally saw what I think was my first legit slime the other day. I'd found an underground ravine probably a week or so ago, with the whole floor basically nothing but a lava pool. I watered it all down and turned the whole floor into obsidian, and I've been mining there ever since. Came back one day and found 2 or 3 slimes there, and even got some slime balls to use for pistons, only to run head first into a 1x1 hole in the obsidian with lava at the bottom. Tears were almost shed.
They spawn too much already and drag down the effectiveness of my mob trap after about an hour.
I already filled in half of my slime farm. Once I'm done collecting slimeballs (finish a double chest) I'm going to fill in the rest to keep my mob farm running better.
If you aren't near any slime chunks (Or simply haven't had the fortune to strip mine in one, you'll never find one, and thus never have a chance to gain legitimate Sticky Pistons, or whatever else you need them for. (Philosopher's Stones, Sticky Dynamites, etc.)
On the flip side, if you happen to cross a Slime chunk, you'll be overrun by them.
Voted yes, I haven't seen one in my SSP world yet, and that's around 100 hours invested. I've recently moved my base a km north, mostly due to the fact that I want sticky pistons! >.< Besides, slimes are super cool :biggrin.gif:

I would like to see more slimes. Still, the current slime generation can be dealt with using techniques are well known (plenty of tutorials on youtube):
1) Strip-mine at y=10.6. 3-high to allow the big slimes to spawn.
2) Identify the chunk borders (divisible by 16).
3) Build 2-wide, 2-deep channels straddling the chunk borders.
4) Use steps/signs to make water flow at the bottom of the channel so that water can drive the slimes to a collection point.
5) Either kill by hand or build a killing system. You can even design it so that all bigger slimes break down and the smallest are delivered to the surface where they are killed and the slimeballs collected.
You will obviously have to strip mine a whole bunch of chunks in order to find several that spawn slimes. Typically 1 in 10 chunks contain slimes.

how about make it spawn like i suggested but make spawn time inbetween slimes spawning longer
I like the fact that Slimes are these Extremly rare mobs , it adds a bit of exitement , Having a tiny slime in a cage is a sign that you've been playing this world for a long time :wink.gif:
This is a good idea, but some people's bases are already overrun by slimes, maybe just lower the chances of groups spawning? And I'd also like some sort of in-game indication that they can spawn in that chunk, like green goo puddles on the ground w/ rain dripping effects.
@ Smuck : Woah, make a suggestion about this or I will :laugh.gif:
I've never seen natural slimes. And I've been playing since July 5th...Yeah, so not a very long time...
Anyway...
The only slimes I've ever seen...
"What should I do first with Single Player Commands? Maybe see what a slime looks like..."
(One Tiny Slime Spawn Later)
"Aw, it's adorable! I want more!"
(500 Giant Slimes Later)
(While rocking back, and forth): "Never again...never again...never again..."
So...I'm going to vote yes. Mostly so that curious people like me don't...re-create what is now my 5th worst nightmare. I swear, it was literally swimming in a sea of lime jell-o. And it wasn't for 5 minutes that I finally dug up the infinite Health code so that I could get out of my jiggly death trap.

Because Terraria was the first to think of slimes.
Try looking up Gelatinous cube

That really depends on where you have your stuff at.
Most everything I do is down below lvl 16.
I have never had a problem with finding them, I am overran with them everywhere.

this justifies slimes being more common since we need that ingredient
how did they die? lava?
what does the tutorial say to do?
( I've never found a Slime btw :sad.gif: )

No, Minecraft had slimes before Terraria even came out.
In fact, when slimes were first introduced, they were very common.
