I have a monster spawner built 148 blocks above ground with a single column of ladders going all the way up. Needless to say, it takes forever to get to the top. I have an iron farm so I can make pistons, but I don't have any slime balls yet, so sticky pistons are out. Almost all elevator designs I've seen use sticky pistons. even the ones that don't still need at least one repeater per level (148) and I don't have near that much redstone yet.
So given all this, I'm thinking that some kind of simple TNT elevator is a good solution. I'll have to figure out the logistics, I just need the height number.

how would you keep the tnt from causing you damage? other than that have you tried a simple water elevator, there typically a bit faster than ladders. other than that have you considerd moving the farm underground, put it in a 9x9x7 room with a watervater taking them up to a drop damage thatll knock em down almost dead

I usually arrange 2 nether portals so that I can come from one in the Nether, move a few blocks in the Nether, and enter the other to reach my sky spawner (they usually need to be only a small number of blocks apart.)
I can definitely see the appeal of being shot from a cannon though.
i was getting ~80 blocks of height, but up to 155 blocks with a well timed jump
i tried to automate the jump with pistons, but i couldn't get the 155 blocks i was looking for
you'd probably need a wall of ladders at the top to catch cause it's not incredibly accurate
Thanks. Basically, yeah. My thought was to have something like that shoot me straight up, then have a tripwire set right at the apex of my height. Once I hit the tripwire, that would set off some redstone circuitry that would use a piston to push out a block under me to keep me from falling back down and then dispense another round of TNT to boost me up to the next tripwire setup. Rinse and repeat. I've not seen anyone do anything like that before. Maybe not very practical, but it sure would be fun!
And to answer my own question, a single block of TNT will launch you a WHOPPING 4 blocks into the air, WHEE!

Have you looked into using a minecart elevator? It only uses iron, wood, and any type of building blocks.
To get down, jump into a puddle.

you could use something like this:
this uses 12 tnt per launch

Looking for something like this?
