Ok i am playing a survival custom map, that the maker has seriously upped the iron spawn rate, to the point that each vein is like 100 ore minimum. I am wondering if there is a way to make a good minecart system without using too much gold, as the creator seems to have removed most of it, and im on an island
Except that there's a bug where powered minecarts will only push minecarts in a north-south direction, and just stops when it tries to push a minecare in an east-west direction.
So unless Notch decides to fix it, either you're going to push it, or you're making powered rails.

When you power the cart for the first time, it only heads one direction. Right click it again, and it will go the other possible way.
This works if you have a lot of iron to make a very long track and materials to make large towers. I'm pretty sure that this isn't the best, but it works.
If, by some freak chance the usual nonsense I generate seems to help you, there's a nice shiny green + button to tell me that I'm doing the right thing
It is still a survival map, but to compensate for being locked on a island, the resource rates were changed by making larger veins of ores, but it seems that the owner did not up the gold rate as well.
for those suggesting I make towers, I want a circular track, that i just jump in the cart then move on, i would rather not have to climb a tower.
thinking about it more now, i may just make a boat canal around the island, boats can go pretty fast...
If so, make powered minecarts.
if it works. The minecart won't stop until it hits something
Those don't work anymore. That's why everyone switched to booster tracks.
just because you're correct doesnt mean you're right

I disapprove.

I'm making a video answer to this right now.
Edit: Uploading...

Off topic: I can't stop staring at your avatar.
Actually they still worked after they were "fixed", if you put a mob in the boosting minecart and then collided them perfectly.

Or get an auto clicker and use this.
Basically exploits the fact that you can direct jump from minecart to minecart. Faster than railroad.
