I just finished my Guardian farm and also put in an item elevator! But nothing spawns in the spawn chambers! Help me! It's inside the Water temple so yeah
There are two identical rooms like that and the both go down underneath to the collection area to drop and get killed. I had like 2-3 spawn once and the all died and all items went perfectly through my item elevator! So now I just need them to spawn!!!
- Make sure your render distance is set to at least 10 chunks.
- The mob cap may be being taken up by mobs in caves below your farm. You can either:
- AFK on a platform above your farm (I think mine is at about y=160). You will need to make sure that you aren't more than 128 blocks away from the guardians at any time and that they will go through the system in less than ~30 seconds.
- Light up all of the caves in a 128 block radius of where you plan to stand.
Remember that mobs won't spawn closer than 24 blocks from you, so if you want to test it out, just stand back for a bit.
I'm also assuming that you have removed any other water that Guardians can spawn in (basically the perimeter of the monument from it's base to the ocean surface needs to be cleared of water), otherwise, the available spawn spaces in your farm will be a tiny proportion of the total available spawn spaces for Guardians.

Hope some of these suggestions helped.
Thank you! Looks like it's time for me to go caving! I'll also make a spawn platform at about 160 and test that too
That's going to be much too high for an AFK platform for a guardian farm. They don't spawn above y=64. You want to be between 24 and 32 blocks away from the spawning area. That's where I AFK on mine and it works very well.
The reason he's doing that is to minimize the dark caves within 128 blocks of player. The guardians will still spawn (since their ocean area will be within 128 blocks of player), and won't despawn (as long as they are killed within a short time, like 30 seconds.) You can make sure the guardians get killed very quickly if you have down flowing water where they spawn (I'm sure there's more.)
On the other hand, if you are in deep ocean where the ocean floor is at y=30 or y=20, maybe there is no need to afk high in the sky. There may not be a lot of caves around because there is simply not room for them. If the dark area count is well below a few thousand dark blocks (that is, just a few caves), then your spawn rates can proceed pretty well.

Although draining the area should help, I suspect that isn't the issue here.
I have set up home in an ocean monument (or at least it's my second base). I have drained most of the interior of the monument but none of the surrounding area. I left the main hall (where the gold blocks are found) filled with water as a guardian farm and it is very productive despite the fact that guardians can spawn all around the monument as well. I seem to get a guardian spawning every few seconds so there is no need to drain the area to get a good spawn rate.
So I just defeated my first ocean monument last night and I want me some sea lanterns, but the monument is so pretty I don't want to destroy it (and I tend not to build things that have a big impact on the landscape in general, so I don't want to leave a giant empty hole in the ocean, either). I'm curious how you went about this? Did you basically rip out the floor and build an inverted pyramid going down that ended with a drop to some hoppers? (Did you have to bring in buckets to fill in the pyramid?) Or did you build the floor up? I don't need thousands of items per hour and don't want a massive build that will destroy the monument, but it's quickly becoming clear that I'm not going to get any significant quantity of sea lanterns just going around and killing the things with a sword.
I drained all of the interior except the large hall where the gold blocks are. I put signs all the way across three blocks above the floor and then drained the floor using sponges leaving a dry area. I then replaced the floor with an inverted pyramid and, exactly as you say, had a drop in the middle with a lava blade so the guardians fell to their doom in flames onto some hoppers. It works really well and I ended up with at least 20 stacks of sea lanterns a(plus a lot of prismarine and prismaring bricks) after using it for a couple of days. I was surprised at how quickly the guardians fell out of the water. They all seem to do it almost immediately. They clearly aren't very bright.
Cool, thank you! I've got one side wing drained and need to drain the other, and I have a few things I want to finish up first, then maybe I'll experiment in Creative. (Or, heck, maybe I'll just build it. Re-making things you've already made in Creative can get tedious.)
I was wondering what would happen if you had the signs only at the drop itself and just let water flow from the source blocks above into the inverted pyramid: if that would sweep them into the drop, or if it would mess something up in some way. It would certainly use few signs (though of course the signs might be needed to dig the pyramid out anyway).
Success! I AFK'd this afternoon while I finished double-checking my taxes and graded exams and already have a stack and a half of sea lanterns.
(Turns out letting water flow from the top does indeed mess things up, luckily I made a backup before I took the floor out and re-started from there.)
I can already see that if I ever plan to do serious building with prismarine there's going to have to be a squid farm in my future... (Luckily those don't look that hard -- famous last words.)
i have built a guardian farm in my creative/survival multiplayer server(i am the only 1 online most of the time and 0 guardians ars spawning) i have spawn proofed everything in a 118 block radius, whereever i afk, up in the sky down low or on the sid it seeems to spawn at a very slow rate no where near to the 500 to 600 its suppost to, and yes i can confirm these tanks are in the bounding box of the monument, maybe the middle 1 isnt however the side tanks also are not spawning at all, i have completely destroyed the monument fyi

There are a couple of possibilities:
- Make sure your render distance is set to at least 10 chunks.

I made a spawn platform at 120. works great
