So, last night I was playing on my hardcore world. I was driving a boat around an island area, when suddenly the boat broke apart and I was instantly killed. The game said that I had died from falling. I had full diamond armor and full health, so I don't know how I died from falling, especially since I was in the middle of the sea where there was no land and no squid mobs. I was kind of shocked.
Is there an explanation of how this happened, something I could have avoided, or was this just a bug?
And if it was a bug, is there any way for me to save my world so that I don't lose all my stuff? I've always accepted my hardcore deaths in past games, but I don't want to lose all of my progress because of a bug that was out of my control. I was just about to fight the enderdragon, so it would suck to have to start all over.
Thanks for any help you guys may be able to provide.
well,im not really sure, but if u wanna regain all your stuff, just set up the lan world and enable cheats adn get em back (not really sure if you can enable cheats in lan with hardcore tho,its worth trying)
I have found boats lately to be somewhat glitchy about where they are sometimes. I have broken several on the shore when I appeared to be 3-4 blocks away. However that has never killed me or even harmed me.
The only instance of people dying in boats in the past that I can recall is from them having a dog with them and the dog would get teleported right in front of them and it was insta death.

Boats in minecraft are so easy to hate. One time I fell forever. Don't know why I did that.
But then again, boats in any game I've played that aren't boat based are glitchy. In minecraft, things like your dilemma happen. In some games, enemies attack you deep in the ocean while you're on the surface for some reason. Even in boat based games things don't work.
What am I trying to convey here? Absolutely nothing. Bye.

Why have I been gone so long? My interwebs are broken and I'm sick. Yay.

It may be possible to close minecraft while still viewing your death message, open the world in an external editor, and set the world to non-hardcore mode. I am unsure if this would work though.
When I started playing Minecraft back in 1.4-ish, boats were already glitchy. I remember almost rage quitting when my boat broke after ploughing through, like, 3 lily pads. Over time, its just gotten worse. The update to 1.7 saw a "sprint" function added to boats, and apparently the steering was improved to, but it just got worse for me. Now my boat flies 10-20 blocks in a random direction every time I dismount, and it takes me forever to swim over there. Oh! And my boats usually break after touching a block, no matter the speed. Anyway, I just stay away from boat travel as much as I can, and hope that someday Mojang will either fix or nerf boats, because I hate them.
Sorry to hear about your world, though. There are a lot of really rage-inducing ways to die, and a glitch is one of them. Especially in hardcore.

In windows, go to the save folder (C:/users/username/appdata/roaming/minecraft/saves). Find the folder for that world. Right click, go to properties, then previous versions. Windows SHOULD have a backup of the save file that you can open/overwrite your deleted game from there. You might lose a day or two of playtime, but better than nothing.

BTW: I was paying on version 1.8.1.
I'm back from my hibernation. Most likely gone so don't pm me.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
I've had boats inexplicable break apart, but I've never died or been damaged. You just ran into an awful bug.
I backup my .minecraft directory every night using Windows Backup. That would have saved you in this instance.
From the bug, sounds like you could avoid it by never bobbing (when sitting in stationary boat) but instead always moving forward fast (no bobbing.)

This works in windows 7, not sure about windows 8
So you can crash something in the future and your boat gets destroyed in the present, which is actually the past.
