Look, I have had bed problems, with my bed in the MIDDlE of my house. So stop it. The problem is not that they are against the wall, it is a bug in 1.5_01.
FAIL.
First off, this bug was since 1.3 if I remember right (With the implementation of beds...) Second, have you tried to look UNDER you? Also, dont forget the lights!!!
Third, why the hell do you even argue? Its something than nearly all people know by now...
I think I'll just follow you everywhere, oh, and, he made no grammatical errors anywhere in that post.
attention: all those who are having bed problems
Herpa derpa.
That sentence makes sense. It could use a word or two added to make it a bit easier to understand, but there are still no grammatical errors.
Herpa Derpa. (Of which are not words.)
You sir, are wrong. Notice the " A " in attention needs to be capitalized, along with the " A " in all.
I could point out just a few more errors, if you want.

Capitalization is a common mistake when typing online, it may be my opinion, along with almost everyone else on the internet, but Capitalization is not a necessity on the internet. So continue, show me more.

Actually, unless you're getting ambushed by spiders, a cave under your bed is never a problem.
< Bed
<Floor (1 block)
< Mob's head (2 blocks)
< Mob's body (3 blocks. This is the "danger block" which is to say, the actual block the mob is spawned in. Since it's 3 blocks away, it's outside the 2-block radius. I mention Spiders because they're only 1 block tall, so they could spawn in a space small enough to fit under your bed and still ambush you, but, you know)
By the same logic, above is safe.
Two.
[] One.
Regardless of all of this, beds are either glitched, or the rules have changed. We are not so simple-minded that we don't know how to use a bed safely.
I don't think so.
This isn't safe, because the mob's head is where you are (remember that you are in the layer ABOVE the bed).

No you didn't, because TNT damage doesn't stack.
See my About Me section for info about me.
Also, to OP, this is NOT true. It is a BUG in 1.5. I KNOW this for a fact. Check my credentials (if there were Minecrafter credentials), I know for a FACT that my bed is COMPLETELY safe. I get woken up EVERY night, no matter what. I believe it has to do with wolves, pathfinding, and possibly glass. My bed is in the middle of a well lit room, with no caves anywhere near it. And by well lit, I mean VERY well lit. I spammed torches all over my floor one night to test it out. I just woke up to a very lit up zombie fight.

I'm not arguing. My bed is on the second story of house, with lights like mad. I'm just stating that the problem isn't being caused by the walls.

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers.
For anyone confused about having a bed near no walls, well lit, etc. it may just be:
Depending on the placement of a bed monsters will spawn on or near the bed regardless of light level. Sometimes this can occur even if the bed isn't touching any walls
That is from the MC wiki, from the page Known Bugs, in Problems in both SSP and SMP. It does not state a way to fix it, so you will have to find that a different way.
i found something pretty useful to people that dont have pacience for looking for materials..

The problem is how you place your doors, when notch fixed wolves pathfinding to walk through doors he messed something up. A door on the inside edge of a block is not safe b/c hostile mobs see it as an empty block and therfore ambush you when sleeping. Place the door on the outside edge of the enterence and you should be ok, also still keep it one block from thin walls
* edit- nevermind, you can sleep in it, but you die when you wake up LOL
