I found a big tree on my first day to start my base, and I managed to harvest a couple of the surrounding trees. I left my 1x1x2 space just before morning, and a skeleton chased me back to my tree, where I hid. When it died, I got 2 bones, making 6 bone meal for fast tree growth :biggrin.gif: I got off to a very fast start, and here's what I've made in under two hours.
Umm, why must we never leave the tree? That seems a little retarded.
I know there is a good alternative, I just can't think of one.
That's the challenge: your only resources are the tree. Wood can provide for basically any need in MineCraft. Tools, fuel, construction material... you name it!
You can make a trail of one wood block to follow if you like, yes. If you wanted to dig a larger surface area you'd probably need more than one block though :tongue.gif:
Only using naturally occuring resources is an interesting idea. I'm curious what sort of impact it could have on play! It'd be hard to get that first furnace up with which to make charcoal =O But if you had the wool to make a bed so you could skip over nights, it might be easier.
I wonder what will happen if you accidentally open up a magma pool? Guess we'll find out.
I love this challenge.
I am so glad you brought this up as I didn't even think about the fire issue and I have a nearby lava pool I was going to "root" my way over to... thanks for saving my tree lol.
Yeap pretty much, I'm deciding how I will use my 20 glass I made wisely, sand is a somewhat difficult resource if your in the middle of dry land. Perhaps some type of fire prevention technique could be used. A waterfall cascading onto the roots before they enter the ground(for the "mine"). Perhaps there might be a better way to do this.
I am having fun with this, have 20 diamonds already and a tree that spans a castle in size, i am in the process of planting saplings to make it leafy. This tree is one luck tree, except for the fact the first thing i did was near kill it except for the stump (I used a 4 high tree to make it harder.) 3 hours and an exposed skeleton dungeon help alot.

I will now write a witty signature in the futile attempt someone reads it, if this is the case than I have inevitably succeeded in mastering the short attention span of forum - ooh look squirrel!
This is a great idea. Taking it a step further, started on an island. Picked an empty island, brought (only) a sapling and planted it. Using pine, and it only was 5 tall to start :sad.gif:
Same here, I decided I didn't want to be forced to chop down my tree spirit brothers so I wandered around until I found a plains area with a lone tree... with only 5 blocks. I only got 1 sapling from it which turned into another measly 5 blocks and 1 sapling lol. This continued for 4 or 5 trees until I finally got 3 saplings from one tree and then it started going fast.
It would be cool if this was a mod that physically limited your movement. Its too easy to accidentally cheat slightly to pick up dropped saplings or something.
My tree is currently undergoing some huge changes at the moment. I'm incredibly picky about how it looks and it's gone through several major changes...
Awesome, I look forward to seeing that, Sweet Ride :biggrin.gif:
Here's the progress on my tree.
I made a huge staircase in the center to get from the top to the bottom. Currently it goes all the way up to the sky, and the second floor is missing walls. The way down doesn't go too far yet. This used to be a side-entrance to my tree, but now I've turned it into the main entrance, as it looks fairly epic :tongue.gif:
I made a path up along the sides of the tree, and I also added those two large roots on the side, the one on the right will lead to an underground area I plan to carve out, the one to the left leads to my wheat farm. You can see a tunnel between both of the roots, that's part of the path up to the top of the tree, I can enter the roots through tunnels inside the tree, on the base floor.
I started on an island with a couple other trees, and planted the single (pine) sapling that would be my home tree.
The home tree has flattened the entire island and harvested it for nutrients
My front door. The inside is small and boring. There is a crafting table and furnace on the first floor. There is a bed and chest one floor down, and the beginning of a mine (only goes down a couple blocks)
This game is a great way to play, and it would be cool if I could get others on my server to play as well. Tree PvP

so that you have to walk inside it?
or
can you just make one trail and walk on it? Since you are aloud to be 1 block away?

You can use dirt to plant around to grow saplings and such, yes :tongue.gif: As long as it's accessible by a wooden block!
