Haha, sorry that I haven't been able to respond quickly enough, guys! I didn't expect this to become such a popular idea. Between real life and making my own tree, I haven't had the time to respond to all the posts in here =)
If the leaves connect to your tree, feel free to walk over them!
Also, I love the idea of using fences as natural windows.
This has some implications for where you can mine, as a hidden lava pit could light up your ENTIRE tree (the blocks are separated by only 1 block of air) and you really couldn't handle any lava at all-not to mention go near ores that are around lava.

There should be a mod that disables fire (Though I am sure that there is already one). There should be a mod that disables fire that I can find, that's updated to 1.5. Anyways, I chose my goal was to build a 2-story house around my sacred tree, and to have gourmet food available at all times (I have Xie's Hunger Mod, Xie's Cooking Mod, And Mo' Creatures). So I guess I beat my challenge? And I beat it before I could grow 3 crops of Wheat... I don't want to mine either, since I'm afraid lava will Whoosh everything away.
This is the first challenge that Ive seen and acctually wanted to play. Really its creative and original but dosent make the game rediculously hard to play (like the get to the nether without a pick challange) Anywho congrads you get a bajillion Gold stars for this idea :smile.gif:

"He's trolling the game mechanic itself. And succeeding."
I think I might simply INVEdit iron axes, I just uncovered magma in my mine, and now the roots are burning. I'm going to try to sever the connection between the roots and the Life Tree, wish me luck...
Right now all the life tree is is a staircase leading to a raised network of pathways, anyway - I go up there at night, and then all the zombies and creepers gather under it and I have to drop sand and gravel on them

The Weighted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.
Challenge Accepted!
I started it last night, always wanted to build a treehouse, but never found the motivation really...
so far, a few pics of my "Tree" (I have finally finished with the base of it, now im going to build it up more, and make it look more like a real tree.
Also, for the pic that show an entire grass area, all the blocks under the grass are wooden blocks, which I thought I would allow considering ive still used the same amount of wood as I would have if it was just a wooden floor.
Yo, I'm up for this! Might make a little roleplayish story to go with it, though my screenshots aren't that great. My building isn't either, but we'll see how it goes.
Content will be up tomorrow, I'd say.

Hi, i'm a scientist, from the NASA. I can make science, so I tell you as a pro, Minecraft is not laggy.
I started this challenge in a forest, because that's where tree spirits belong. Little did I know that there was a lava pit on the other side of the forest that set the whole thing ablaze.
Ouch, that's unfortunate to hear about the forest fires or random lava pits that burned down people's trees. Also, I had no idea there was lightning in this game, and that it could set a tree on fire. Yikes D:
One thing I'm going to make sure I start doing, and that I recommend everybody else do, is to create a backup copy of your save file each time you finish playing.
I saved my game, up on my connected system of walkways with creepers underneath. I reloaded the game and forgot the sink-through-blocks reload bug. I fell, and 5 creepers reduced Home Tree to a large crater.
RAGEQUIT.

Sadly just after posting pictures, a thunder storm destroyed 'Home tree' :sad.gif:
So now I am starting again, I will post pictures :biggrin.gif:
I just need help with a new name :smile.gif:
That's so sad. Did you take any pictures of the smoldering ruin which was once your home? I haven't had much experience with thunderstorms, but I had assumed that the rainfall would put-out any fires that are started by lightning strikes. I assume that this is not the case?
