Yeah, a high efficiency shovel with unbreaking is of course very fast and lasts a while as well, and i have never actually researched this, which is cheaper. I just think, it is. But the main reason i do it like this is because i think it´s the less boring, and most fun way
I build a small nether hub today. I was thinking that it might have turned out too small, but it serves it´s purpose, and we could always expand it of course. Many people build insane buildings as their nether hub, but if you think about it, you never spend any time there. It´s just a bus-stop to get you from one place to another.
I have 4 portals in the nether. To my base, to the dessert, to the ocean temple and to the Stronghold with the end portal. I want to give each tunnel a bit of a theme inspired on it´s destination, and started to experiment with the one to the ocean monument.
I also did a minecart station thing, where you get automatically released upon arrival, and when you want to leave, you step on a pressure plate, a minecart is dispensed, you hop in and automatically, off you go.
Here´s some pics:
you can see which tunnel leads to what place by the type of blocks
Here´s the minecart thing. When you step on the pressure plate, the rail gets deactivated, and a pulse is send to the dispenser, which dispenses a minecart. A block comes up behind the first powered rail. When you hop into the minecart, the rail gets activated again, and the block stays up just long enough to get you going. As you can see there is a two tick delay on the repeater. When you come back, the cart breaks on the cactus and disappears into the hopper, sending it back to a dropper under the dispenser. Both the dropper, the hopper and the piston gets activated by the pressure plate. Very simple, but just a bit cooler then just a rail and a minecart The reason i did this also was that i want to half-slap the rail, and sometimes when you hop out of a minecart it gets pushed a bit and disappears under the half-slaps and get send away, which is a bit annoying. You have to go after it and get it back.
Trying out the design for the tunnel to the ocean monument.
Looking at it now, obviously, the glowstone needs to be replaced by a sea lantern!
It seems that the rumors about my new settlement are spreading around the world. Today i had some visitors. Maybe they are spies, maybe just innocent by-passers. I need to check up closely with my binoculars. And what do you know! There is someone checking out my world! Wonder where he came from...
A fun little project.
I always wanted to build one of these in my world, ever since i saw the Mumbo Jumballoon on the Hermitcraft server. Of course, this is a smaller and simpler version, but it looks cool and is a nice addition to the settlement i think.
I stole some villagers from the market down in the village
A got 2 up in there, actually, i got 3 out of the market, but one escaped! He was sitting in the minecart, but just run out! I have never seen that before. Since it was night time, he run to the nearest house and got inside.
Good job on the ingenuity of getting (and keeping) that villager up there. Looking good.
Thanks! Getting that villager up there was actually a lot easier then i expected. I had to extend the platform where the fire is in the balloon a bit as a sort of roof, because it occurred to me that it was possible to get up the edge of the "basket" and that there is a trapdoor on the side. The villager would see the trapdoor as a full block and just walk straight off! lol.
NWiegman, thanks for the nice feedback and the bling bling
I came up with a pretty cool design for the nether tunnel leading to the ocean monument. I need more resources though, so time to finish the project. It´s a lot of work drying out the monument, specially because of the constant tasering by the guardians. Pretty annoying!
Anyway, here´s the nether tunnel. What do you guys think? I looks cool when you ride through it because of the dark nether brick swooshing by, gives a good feel of speed.
So, i finally decided to dry out the entire ocean monument. A lot of work, not so much because of all the sand placing and sponging, but because of all this guardians all the time. Sometimes they kept tasing me constantly and i couldn´t do any work at all. But... it´s finally done. Now i´m going to leave it for now because i want to do something else now. I also removed the entire temple, i have some plans ready for an artificial island base with the guardian farm inside.
Here are some pics of the process.
This guy was just sitting there with it´s spikes retracted. I could push him around and he didn´t do anything, just looking at me waving his tail. I actually pushed him through the sand wall!
A lot of the times the trick with torches under the sand did´t work anymore, i´ve never experienced this so frequently like now.
All done:
I found a cave entrance right under the side of the monument:
Removing the monument. Done in no time with efficiency V and a haste II beacon.
Wouldn't it be cool if you could just burn all that sand and it would just turn to glass...
Yeah. Or MC should have an event where the temperature is really hot and things burn really badly. So if you didn't protect your house(unless it was made with stone) it would be burned to the ground. XD And a majority of the sand would be glass.
That looks like it would be boring as all hell to do. I really like this journal. You do a lot of work in a fairly small amount of time
Well, it was a bit boring, but not too much. it was a bit annoying though, because the less water i had left, the denser the guardian population was and i got tased constantly. And thanks! Glad you like it. Sometimes i think i play too much. I´m pretty addicted lol. I play 3-4 hours every evening...
Wouldn't it be cool if you could just burn all that sand and it would just turn to glass...
Now that would be awesome, would save a lot of work! I´m planning on building a big wall with windows though, and maybe some guardian pixel art on it. I want different levels all the way around build up towards the middle, with entrances to different rooms, and the guardian farm in the middle.
I left this project for now though. I´m currently working on a mob farm above the roof of the nether...
No problem man. I play a lot also. I play on the Xbox 360 because I don't have a pc yet. I have an account but no pc I started a sugar cane farm and I need to finish my huge mansion that houses my chest room and currently a wheat farm as well as a carrot farm in a couple towers. I get bored more easily than you so I don't normally play that much. But if I have something entertaining to do then I play about the same amount of time.
I´d like to see your mansion, but i guess you can´t take screenshots? Wait, didn´t you start on some sort of pyramid? That looked really good! Did you ever finish it? I´m working on a mob farm above the nether ceiling. I´ll show it when it´s done. In the mean time, here´s what i´ve done so far.
Above the nether:
I guess you all know the trick. Enderpearl to the roof and use dark oak. I made a mistake though... I though i had everything with me, but forgot the dirt... DUH. Luckily i had some obsidian and a flint´n´steel on me.
This will have to do it for now. I will make it bigger when i build an elevator.
Quartz grinding and some cool nether-scapes:
Look at all the glowstone!
Awesome lavafall
I wish there where caves like this in the overworld. Would be a cool place for a base
Oh yeah, they sure do! I made a simple mob farm originally designed by Etho and Docm77, 220 layers above the nether. I get tons of gold, even ghast tears and gunpowder and rotten flesh. It uses iron golems to kill the mobs and the loot is collected by a hooper minecart. Simple yet effective. I can even get the XP if i want.
Here´s a series of pictures of the construction and the final farm.
Setting up suplies
Building the framework and the first pigman already spawned
Magma slimes also spawn
It´s getting busy!
The tedious task of placing the rails for the hopper minecart. Pigs are constantly in the way
Ghasts also start spawning. Here you can see the scaffolding i used to place the levers to power the rails
Rails finally done. It´s getting dangerous now
This is rare!
Starting the spawning floor.
Building the floor is going to be a problem with all those pigs inside. I figured a way though. Just aggro´d one of them where they can´t reach me and started slashing.
Excuse me? Do you mind? I´m trying to make a floor here!
Floor finally done! This is from my AFK point
Building the glass cage
Simple minecart unloading system with a comparator connected to a hopper that empties the minecart. When there are items in the hopper, the rail is unpowered. When the hopper is empty, the rail is powered again, sending off the minecart
Iron golems in place and the fun begins
Iron golems don´t attack ghasts, but sometimes they´re in the way for the pigment, so they get hit and so the farm produces tears and gunpowder as well
Also XP. I made a door to be able to collect the XP if i want (and if there are no ghasts inside)
Here a test for the floor, first done in my test world
Now i have to build an elevator. I´m thinking of a minecart elevator with minarets placed 3 or 4 blocks distance up along a pillar, where you right-click upwards, into each next minecart. I have to wait for a bit more iron though, because all the rails and golems took a big pile from my stock...
Wow, I love that skeleton face pattern. Really nice job, this survival world is the best i've seen, well... ever! Your builds remind me of professional building for large medieval maps, I really like it! I really still can't believe you built that castle, too... super impressive!
Wow, thank you so much! There are quite a lot of survival worlds out there that are much more impressive though I´m following some LP´s on youtube and they do inspire me to really make an effort to make my world the best i can after my likings. I always liked building, so i´ve build a lot in creative in the past, before changing my gameplay to survival. I follow 2 servers on youtube, Mindcrack (but that seems to have come to a stop now), and Hermitcraft. At the moment through Xisuma, Etho and Docm77 who recently joined. I like Docm77 very much, and have followed his world tour for a long time. Xisuma is both a great builder and a great redstoner. Anyway, i thought i mentioned those, because they are much better minecrafters then i am and they really inspire me.

So basically, I'm stupid.

This is the footprint of the entire monument.
And an endermen ruining my wall!
I know because I have started working on a water temple of my own lol And it's going to take me forever!!!
Signature removed by popular demand.
Otherwise, I can't wait to see what you make of the monument!

This is what i got from it. Plus 28 levels
And did you say mob farm? I'm pretty sure mobs don't spawn above the nether.
