This is my shroom farm, and sometimes i get spiders in there that drop down on me, but I kind of like the suspense of not knowing what i'm going to run into. I say let them spawn!
That's not true. There is difference in mushroom spawning when comparing full light, (torches) redstone torches light and darkness. There was a very good thread about this with solid data in it, but I can't find it with the search anymore.
But a guy tested this in large scale and the difference in light levels was undeniable. I wish I could find that study again.
If it's the same thread I read, the difference was negligible. Yes, undeniably, there was a difference, but it was too small to worry about it. Just throw some torches in and grow your mushrooms in light levels as low as you can get without spawning monsters, but no lower. It will impact your mushroom growth rate, but by a barely noticeable rate.
Yup, that's the one. The difference between lit and complete darkness seems to hover around 7-14%. Hardly worth putting up with creepers and such for. You won't even notice the difference unless you're an accountant who insists on keeping complete records of every mushroom harvested. Seriously, look at the raw data -- there are some hours where the lit room generates more than the dark one. The rate is so random and the difference so small, you have to seriously compile data for many hours to even detect there's a difference.
i just have a room about 12x12 or so (if not bigger) with maybe 2 redstone torches on each side of the wall, then i plant maybe 3-4 mushrooms on the floor aswell and let them grow, there is 4 floors of mushrooms in the building, each adding up to a total of 12 blocks high from the block under me to the ceiling.
when it comes to harvesting i just throw down a few buckets of water in the corder to gather em all up, 2 floors are reds and 2 floors are brown mushrooms, i've never encountered a mob
I have a 30x5x2 room for farming mushrooms. It's pitch black and not once have a had a mob spawn it in.

This is the nicest English-to-English translation work I've seen here in a while. I wasn't sure if I could read it in English before, but once it was in English, it made so much more sense!
I know. This is what I did for my farm.
