Who says you have to update? No one. Notch and the whole team are trying their hardest. I hate people saying that things like having a "Gaming Friday" is unprofessional. I want to see you code a game every day. It's not the end of the world if he relaxes a bit. You know what you bought, stop complaining and shut up.
He said it for me, thanks Derky.
It's a beta, you saw the update button option and you clicked it. That's your own doing, not Mojangs. Yes it's buggy, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? The game is still in development, it's not complete, I.E. You are whining about something that is still under SEVERE construction and you expect the developers and company workers to be bowing at your feet kissing your toes? No, I think not. Trolling really isn't your best jive dude, go back to warcraft forums, I'm sure they'd embrace you in a heartbeat.
I -wish- I worked for a company that let me have a game day at work..I'd be so happy, I'd never leave that job. XD
I love it how this thread is made of people on the one side complaining about unprofessional practices (which they are) and on the other hand a bunch of people who have no idea how a company is supposed to operate (most probably because they're 13).
A games company normally works 5 times a week and usually even 6 days a week when they get closes to release dates. Beta is there to fix bugs and not break the game further. Just yesterday a patch for Shogun 2 broke the game severely and Creative Assembly worked overnight to get it fixed.
Mojang is not your typical game company. They are indie developers. But go ahead and discredit anything I say because I'm twelve, I won't mind.
He's not supposed to work 24/7, but he's supposed to make sure that releases are widely bug-free and if problems occur, he shouldn't take a day off on Friday to play games.
Its a beta, which it tells you when you buy the game, you are supposed to expect bugs.
From what I understand, all dropped items disappear forever? Hardly gamebreaking. Just use INVedit.

Just because their indie does not mean they have an excuse to be irresponsible. If anything, they have more of an incentive to handle their game, and it's update, with more care than big companies. While I'm not exactly against their Friday game day, they certainly shouldn't trashed it seeing as the game has the bugs it has.
And stop falling on your age as an excuse for being flamed. This is the internet, there is no such thing as age.
Im not going to start critizing the dynamics of this development. But as a customer, I was promised much more. How can we expect the game to be great, when in the update you get what, like 5 new features... Bugs do happen, and Im glad people are working on it. But When mojang boasts about over 2000000 sales, i expect a little more profissionalism than a half ass blog and a complete mishandle of the comunity.
Yeah, this game receives nowhere near the level of attention and support it deserves considering how successful it has been. This game could be something really amazing. It's already fun, but it has much more potential. Right now it barely even works. There needs to be a real company behind it, not just a few friends that hang out and code a bit and release game-breaking bug fix updates. Not to say it should be bought out by blizzard or anything, they just need to hire some more people and take it more seriously.

I only mentioned that because
...bunch of people who have no idea how a company is supposed to operate (most probably because they're 13).
Anyway, I was referring to how he was comparing Mojang to normal video game giants with hundreds of employees. Mojang doesn't have that many employees. I personally don't understand why Notch put an update out before this "game day,| and I agree that releasing it on a Monday or Tuesday would work much better.
I was comparing them to proper games companies, because they should be treated as such. Just because they're small doesn't mean that they don't have to operate like any normal company.
But a larger company with more employees is able to say "You 30 can have the day off Friday, we'll just have the other division work on it." Mojang is not. Do not get me wrong, I think Mojang really messed up with this update, but comparing them with companies significantly larger than them does not give an accurate description.

Certainly Mojang is different from those other games, since it only has 1 guy currently working on MineCraft, but that doesn't give them the excuse to release a major patch, and then ignore it because the next day is their collaborate game day.
Just because Mojang is smaller than the big companies, does not mean it can be lazier.
True, they shouldn't give their employes time off on Fridays at all (as normal small businesses do it).
If you're referring to Mojang by this, then I can agree, although perhaps a longer break time for that "Gaming time." If your referring to the theoretical video game business, my point was that they can do that, not that they do.

Because there is only one way a company can work, right? :dry.gif:
There's only a few ways that a company that wants to be treated as a professional one can work, yes.
Does this sound professional? "Come in whenever you want, as long as you get about 40 hours a week done"
Well, that's (roughly) Nokia's policy (as of a couple years ago, anyway), and I'd say they're pretty professional. Company morale is very important, and if that means they don't work on Fridays then good for them.
Your limited ideas about what's professional don't really mean much to anyone else.
@Above: I did not know that you never worked in your life.
If you've ever worked in a small business you'd understand that Notch's behaviour is not professional at all and would cause severe trouble with his job if he was working in any small business.
I think you fail to see the point. Being the owner of a multi-million Euro company, the customers (ergo us) expect at least some professional behaviour from him.
He's fixing the bugs tomorrow. When someone comes in as soon as they can after they learn something is broken, I think its at least half-way decent.

@paganmother Just doing my own thing.

Gaming trumps your consumers feelings and game breaking bugs eh?

OH LOOK ITS UR BUDDY DON'T UPDATE!
Seriously, if you don't want to update then make sure when you update, you know what the hell you are doing...

So, he says he's going to fix the bugs, and you STILL whine like a little bitching child?
Grow up already.
@Above: I did not know you ran the company.
He owns the company. He can act however he wants.
i liked beta 1.5
