OK so I DO NOT understand how you wired the stair part... I've been trying to experiment with them and have only found that I can place redstone on top of the block that the hatch is connected to and I think it looks very ugly, so please explain how you are to wire the hatches the way you did.
On the back side of the block, make a line of redstone going towards it, and it should activate a hatch.
Woops! I see there is a staircase in the video. It's somewhat more complex than a simple stair -- I'd like to see more on that.
Hint: Everything runs through a memory cell first, and a the "bottom" button is just the reset button for the memory cell. The green ('OR gate' output) hits half the "middle" hatches, and then goes under ground, comes around the other side, and hits the other half. You also can't see where the red ("top" button.) hits the upstairs hatches, but it's easy to imply.
I'll toss together a video tomorrow sometime, I'm considering making some redstone tutorials. It all kinda came from my head, so, sorry it looks kinda odd. (I'm not claiming the idea as my own. I did think of it independently, but, surely I'm not the only one who had this idea.)
can you also show it actually in use? I mean, walk up and down, so we can see it from all angles?
I know the circutry's the most difficult part, but I'd like to see it in action.
Gladly. I'll make a video tomorrow, where I show everything off, and then make a simplified one after? In the meantime, just look at my fancy Paint picture, and the description. :]
Ok so that makes sense BUT how did you wire the bridge? When there is one right next to another how do you wire it so that it doesn't connect to each other?
What I am going for is a 4 trapdoor system (2x2) in which I can place in front of my house in a SMP server I play in so that when someone is trying to get in while i am inside, I can hit a button and drop them into a hole/cage/lava pit and since my house/land is protected, they wont be able to dig their way out. So what I am trying to do is make this in a small space while not having the redstone all over and showing.

I saw that, can you explain more about that? I liked what I saw, but, I never really messed with pig cookers. I used to build the giant mob towers, and I'd put grass floors, though.

2x2? Well, for it to work you're going to need a little bit of space, (small,) and 2 blocks behind each hatch, for wiring.
If it was only one width, you could wire like this,
But with two it gets a little more complicated.
Hope that helps, if you need more, ask.
IMPORTANT EDIT: I just figure out an insanely easier way to wire the hatches. (mainly changes the bridge, and maybe makes the stairs easier.)
I knew you could put a redstone torch under the hatch itself, (like with doors,) but it seems if you put it under the hatch-dependent-block, it'll work perfectly.
Could you use the whole gate thing to prevent boat drifting to also prevent pigs and other mobs from stealing your minecarts and leaving them somewhere randomly on the track?

Hm. Well, I just had an idea, but I keep forgetting that there has to be a block attached to a hatch. (Haha, definitely not the other way around, or anything..)

Should look that that. ^^
This won't work. vvv

Do it! I wanna see the finished product.
What'd I'd like seeing, is a mobtrap from someone. Maybe using a trapdoor to keep the mob from swimming out?
The stop. It allows people to get of the minecart at a station or continue on if they would like.
We must continue to come up with uses!

It's super-effective!
Agreed! I really like this, and that boat dispenser someone made.

Thank you! It's appreciated.
And, to whom it may concern, I'll be sure to add a toilet in there, somewhere. Give me a good looking design, though!

Any ideas, guys?
