Can lightning set wood on fire? If so then is there any way to turn weather off? I have some massive structures made from wood and I dont want them getting set on fire.
You can, actually, turn off weather. There is a command in single player commands for this, and also Zombe Modpack has a feature that allows you to turn off storms as soon as they come for you.
I think the fire started doesn't spread of even destroy the block it hits. I just watched a video when the player used single player commands or something like it to control the weather. He had lightning hit wood without rain and the fire just went away rather quickly.

Lightning had struck my house and burnt it all to the ground in smp. I hope Notch comes up with a command to disable it. Even if the rain puts it out, explain my house burning down durring a thunderstorm.

There's a bug in smp where rain doesn't put out fires from lightning; this thread is about ssp I believe.
Is there even any weather on existing worlds?
Thanks
And I don't believe there is a way to disable weather.
