It's quite a bit easier to harvest, and the trees grow at the same rate. Also, yours has a torch/sapling ratio of 1:1, while this one has a ratio of 1:2!
I usually make a large flat plane of grass (For Trees) about 50x50 (Roughly) than plant as directed
And so on and so forth. I tend to get a lot of large trees as well. As of someone else said in this thread, make sure that there are at least 8 blocks above your trees. Also place some tourches about as well. Continue this pattern for a long way. Or what you can also do is plant randomly in a wide open FLAT area. Hope this helped

With the addition of bonemeal, tree farms are largely unnecessary now. Just keep a small stash of bonemeal and saplings, go to a flat open plain of grass, and grow the tree instantly. Chop down, rinse, and repeat until you have the wood you want.
That said, I like creating a scaffolding around a few tree locations so I can climb on top of particularly large trees and get the wood unreachable from the ground.
GUIDE TO INFINITE WOOD!!!11!eleven
Step 1: Play on Hard Mode to increase night time monster spawns.
Step 2: At Dawn, go outside and collect burnt monster drops.
Step 3: You should have around 10 bones, maybe more if you walk around at night.
Step 4: Cut down about 2-3 trees.
Step 5: Collect 10+ saplings.
Step 7: Go to a nice, open, grassy field.
Step 8: I bet you didn't notice there was no Step 6.
Step 9: Go bat-**** insane, screaming like a lunatic and throwing Saplings like you're a member of the Red Socks.
Step 10: Repeat, but this time with Bone Meal.
Step 11: ???
Step 22: PROFIT!

Hard mode doesn't increase drops by the way, but nice.
^If you left the bottom block you wouldn't have to replant.
Although then there is a chance of drops being destroyed by the cactus.
Well first of all, yea Grabarz19 is right, the drops can be destroyed. On topic now, cactus farms are the only easy thing for me :tongue.gif:. Mine are like this:

And the I have my own system of retrieval (spellcheck?), being a trench of water ending with a pressure plate connected to an inverted redstone torch as a visual alarm system.
My tree farm can grow the whole farm in less than 3 mincraft days.If you make it big enough the trees start growing before you have time to finish the harvest (and i'm not even embellishing(not even a little)).All this without any bonemeal looks like this.
I think to get never ending trees you have to make it at least 10 trees in both direction's but i've not built one in a while so don't hold me to it.
p.s. will upload pics and other farms if requested

This is my sig I found if on the side of the road one day and it's followed me everywhere ever sense. so if you know how to get rid of one contact me...please.
With the ability to grow the new tree types now, it depends on which type of tree you're trying to grow. All the above suggestions were for the old trees. Those patterns will not work with the new trees because they need a larger area to grow in. Birch trees need a 5 X 5 X 7 high space and Pine need 5 X 5 X 10 high space. This means that these trees will not tolerate another tree growing within two spaces of them, thus would need to be planted every 3 blocks to grow. Also any branches of the old trees that grew over into the spaces above would stop the birch and pine saplings from growing. Thus the new trees should probably be segregated from the original trees.
I've been wondering : What is the most efficient way to tree farm and to farm (not mob grind) in general (wheat mainly)
Thanks,

leaves being saplings.

Yea ive tried that before, but alot of my saplings dont grow, even after 20+ days
Secondly, use this blueprint:
Pretty simple!

Most likely, animals are spawning inside your farm. To fix this, remove all the grass inside.

Nope. Go with this, again:

lold.
is there any grass in your farm? animals spawn on grass, derp. try using fences, if your not already. they dont climb over those.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
