The survival aspect - running from zombies/creepers/spiders - is certainly fun.
But what really makes Minecraft what it is, is the fact that you can build stuff. That you can mine out a cave, chop down some trees, smelt some iron, and build yourself something amazing.
A fortress to weather the night... A ginormous skyscraper... An undersea city... A pastoral countryside... A pirate ship... A space ship... Whatever!

Minecraft is also very relaxing, it really helps after a stressful day.
And it reminds me of Animal Crossing for some reason. Which is a plus because that game is one of the last nostalgic memories of my childhood.
Which is why I'm using the amazing Animal Crafting texture pack. It's beautiful ;_;
