I'm not sure, but are you serious about this? If you are, then when was the last time you played and/or what version are you playing on? Currently there is colored wool, unless there was some mysterious update that I missed while being at class.
Coloured wool is back, just hard to get. Just jump into lava with 64 diamonds and 64 wool in your inventory and the wool will be dyed to whatever colour you select. The window opens when you're in the lava.
