And to answer the guy who wondered why people don't use smooth lighting, I think part of the reason is because it makes things look a little darker and makes a little harder to know what light level a block is. Just yesterday, I had smooth lighting on and had explored a cave, only to find that two zombies had somehow spawned in one place.
Just, no.... >.>
I do like cobble though, especially with a texture pack! :smile.gif:
It also, as others have said, goes very well when mixed with other materials.
I'm sorry guys, I just don't see it. I NEVER use Cobblestone in anything, because I think is just looks too fugly and amateurish. Can anyone please show me some good pics to prove Cobblestone's aesthetic value?
Cobble is the best, great when associated to mossy cobblestone, or smooth stone. It's great for roads, it's great for protection, it's great for .... EVERYTHING!!!!

I don't like the default cobblestone. In every other texture pack it looks alright. It's probably just the fact that it stands out from the wrest of the blocks.

There's only one way to find out. We must tie him up and throw him in the lake. If he lives, he is a whitch. If he dies, he is human. MY LOGIC BEATS YOURS.
Cobblestone is among my favorite blocks in Minecraft, mainly because I always build castles if I make an above ground home. Sorry but I'll have to disagree with some of the posts above about gravel. It's just always an eyesore to me unless it's a naturally generated dried out lake. Those are always pretty IMO for some reason.
Hooray for cobblestone! I use it for the roofs in most, if not all of my houses, and also for roads.

"Minecraft? Realistic? Really? This is a game where you punch trees to get wood, you can make the wood into wooden planks in less than five seconds, and trees don't fall even if you remove a piece of the trunk from the middle. This is a game where animate corpses, giant spiders and exploding green terrorists emerge at night to hunt you down, farm animals run rampant across the countryside, and you can stop the flow of molten lava with a block of snow."
I think it matters where it is. I like to make it on my firt floor of my homes, just in case a guessssssssst comes and tries to blow my house up. I also like to you use it as some kind of city wall or something like that.
You know what looks terrible by itself? Smoothstone.
That and cobblestone.
and dirt.
and bedrock
obsidian (Let's just pretend I wrote down every block)

Off Topic: Why do people never use smooth lighting? I do, it looks cooler.
...Cobble is rocks.

I don't see why it is ugly.
Wood,planks, and sandstone for me!
What texture pack are you using, i love the windows on it.
Well, one reason is because they don't have a strong enough computer.
Another one is because it's way too dark with it.

Then I go straight to smoothstone.
