NOOOO! My immersion! Save me from the floating blocks Muncher!
Can't save you from idiocy. As I said before, and you would have seen this if you had read, I have problem with blocks that are pushed not falling, because it shows the glaring problems in the physics. With pistons you can make a floating structure that pushes floating block are standing on nothing. Try it. It looks very glaring and bad.

Besides you, who thinks that floating blocks is a physics problem and not just a feature in the world of Minecraft?
I hope they do get put in the game. It'd be nice to use them to make flood gates that opened and closed. That self repairing bridge was pretty neat too.

You are really thick are'nt you? I have no problem with STATIONARY floating blocks. It's when the floating blocks are sliding along on air it when it's a problem. Did that penetrate? Or do I have to repeat myself again?
Did I ever say my word was law? Quote me and I'll gladly apologize.

But they're not sliding on air, they're being pushed by a piston.
Alright... theres some debate to pistons being in minecraft... But you can use them how you see fit... for example, here are a few ideas that i did which the piston isn't even seen. And if you REALLY don't want pistons, just don't build them
How can you say that this kind of stuff doesn't belong in minecraft?! Look at what you can do with it... (no where near as crazy as the previous posters :smile.gif: which is awesome.)
This video there are clearly floating blocks being pushed. There's a better video but I can't find it.
That's not sliding on air. If an object were to slide on air, that would imply the air is applying a normal force on the object to counteract it's weight. This is not how blocks, like cobblestone, work in minecraft however. Cobblestone is simply not effected by gravity. The only force acting upon the object is from the piston. Therefore, it's not sliding on air and instead it's simply being pushed by a piston and does not fall to the ground because it is not effected by gravity.
The cobble stone is floating. It is sliding while floating. Therefore it is sliding on air. It looks bad and jarring. You can make pistons that push one Floating cobblestone in a square and it looks terrible.

People without a formal education shouldn't be allowed to use the internet.
When something is pushed, It slides on the surface it is being push on. In minecraft any area not occupied by a block is air, so the cobblestone is sliding on air.

According to your requirements, you ow me an apology.
Being that anything is possible in minecraft, pistons are not overpowered, minecraft has no set time period, minecraft already ignores the laws of physics, and they have way more pros then cons, I don't see any reasons why they shouldn't be added except that you don't like them. Your trying to force the majority of the minecraft player base to go without an update because YOU don't like it even though you could easily just not use them? Selfish much?

"Sliding" is simply the object under it applying a normal force. Blocks in minecraft (except sand, gravel, etc.), have no gravity however so there is no normal force that exists and therefore no "sliding" occurs.
I thought a basic physics class was a requirement for everyone?
I'm agreeing with Muncher on one part. There's a video that shows a self-repairing drawbridge, powered by a cobblestone generator, pistons, and redstone. It pushes new blocks out to cover the gap. The piston can push blocks out into open air and they'll float.
A simple fix would be to simply make objects pushed via piston susceptible to gravity. Jeb mentioned he wants to tweak pistons before putting them in later, so why not just get ahold of Jeb and recommend gravity, Muncher?
There's two things you can do when something's broken. You can fix it, or you can throw it away. Muncher, the posts I seen you write here are fully "throw it away", which realistically isn't going to happen at this point. Try switching gears into "fix it" and suggest improvements to Jeb. Even if you still get a result undesirable to you, you'd still have more effect than just making "throw it away" posts.
The blocks pushed by pistons are almost the same as making a pillar of blocks, deleting the first 2, and then you have floating blocks. It just looks different, but it's the same.

That would be nice if that happened.
Any criticism I give or problem I bring up IS a fix it. That's why I hate the term "Constructive criticism". Any criticism where the person tells why they are criticizing, then the person receiving the criticism should take that criticism can use it to fix whatever is being criticized. So all criticism where a reason is given is a "fix it".

Then I will criticize you. And I repeat myself since you probably won't go back to read my edit.

Can I that apology now? I quoted you.
No, there was no direct quote of me saying directly my word was law. All I see here is you trying to put words in my mouth saying that I'm trying to force what I want on people. I'm just debating and defending my opinion. The other quote was a passive aggressive pathetic joke that not even a three year old would think clever.
And I'm going to put this in all caps. I DON'T MIND PISTONS BEING IN THE MAIN GAME, I LIKE THE MOD AND USE IT MY SELF. I'M JUST TRYING TO BRING UP PROBLEMS, FIXES AND THINGS THAT WILL NOT FIT IN MINECRAFT SO WHEN PISTONS ARE IMPLEMENTED THEY WILL BE THE BEST THEY CAN. WHY DO YOU RETARDS THINK EVERY BAD THING I SAY ABOUT SOMETHING IS A ATTACK AND I HATE IT COMPLETELY? BRINGING UP PROBLEMS WITH SOMETHING IS A GOOD THING, NOT AN ATTACK ON ANYTHING.

I also don't like the pistons because they make blocks feel weird. I was watching that repairing bridge video, and it was weird how the pistons push the blocks then they float. It's just off.
If you don't like them -- don't build them in your world.
Simple as that.
Let's add guns and nukes.
Don't like them? Don't build them.
Get a real argument instead of a shitty cop out one please.
And next time remember that Notch said he will never add guns!
Plus they're no where near the same thing.
And seriously, if you don't like something. Shut up and don't use it! It's just a game, your life will not end when pistons come in.
I personally love the idea of pistons.

Maybe your not the only person who plays minecraft. And your opinion is not law nor does it effect Mojang.
