I'm so lame, I can't build a complete house before the sun sets on the first day. So I chop wood, then dig a hole, and put a door on it. Then I start mining down while I scout about looking for a good spot for a farm and house.

i dont even have a house, i always end up with an underground "facility" its more for function than style and features, hollowed out cave full of chests for storage, hollowed out cave for wheat, tree's sugarcane and cows. On a typical multiplayer server, i stay underground for up to a week before im ready to make any appearance above ground. And thats usualy some random skyscraper or tower or a spaceship.
Last surviving overview screenshot of 1 server i used to play on before it stopped working. Prior worlds on this server i had built 20 floor skyscrapers, and a tower that was 100+ blocks high with a spaceship (that you could explore inside) docked to it. Yet i never have had a cosy home lol
