Updates too often can't possibly be a bad thing unless the content in the update is bad.
The only thing that I don't like is that once you generate a world, there may be features that the game does not render but in a future update they would... For instance, if you want Lapis on an old save, you would have to travel to new chunks, same thing with natural sandstone, birch and pine, etc...
I start a new world every update and try not to spend too much time on one game because I know Ill just end up deleting it and starting a new world on the next update.
I just plan on making a new world when the game is finally released...(11/11/11!!!)

Why don't you just go and delete unused chunks and have them regenerate? I'm not sure they will regenerate on the surface as they were before, but at least you get your new resources.
Think about it, some plugins for servers hadn't updated to 1.4 yet, and they gonna put in 1.5?
It sounds too fast to me...
And in another thread, someone is complaining that the 1.5 update is taking TOO LONG!
My, how will we know which one of your irrational opinions is the CORRECT one?
Seriously, it's not Mojang's concern if modders don't keep their own **** updated. Nor should it be. They're trying to produce their own game, and you're asking them to work slower for your own benefit.
This makes little sense when the most common response to someone suggesting new content that the bulk of the community doesn't want is "Get a mod for it."
Think about it, MC used to get daily updates. Daily changed into weekly as Alpha approached Beta, and now we're lucky if we get two updates in one month.
What he said. Besides, we have a choice now to NOT update the game, so fast updates wouldn't cause as many problems as usual if you're careful about clicking "yes"
To be frank, if you use mods, don't update until the mods are updated. You could always prevent updates before, it is no different now. If you want to update so you can play SMP, then it's your problem if mods no longer work. Notch has never been, and is not, and will never be responsible for the unsupported client mods that are made for Minecraft. If people want to whine about mods not being updated right away, then I suggest they update the mods themselves. Notch doesn't follow the modders schedule, or the mod-users schedule, he follows his schedule. Notch provides Minecraft, you play Minecraft, he never provided, endorsed, or approved of the mods people use.
most threads here are about someone complaining about something. with so much to complain about, you wonder how minecraft still sells. or maybe it's just most of these people have way too much time on their hands. or like to complain a lot.
It's just people with a complaint are more vocal than happy customers. And if you claim to be a happy customer all those people with a complaint come down on you like a ton of bricks claiming you're a fan boy, so why say anything if you're actually happy?

Do you have a lovely bunch of coconuts? Do you have them all standing in a row? Are there big ones, small ones, some as big as your head?

I simply don't post how happy I am, or any complaints simply because I'm lazy. I think dogs needed something bigger to accompany them in the update (achievements and stats, but I can't complain, I'm not coding Minecraft, Notch is), but I don't think this update was too soon, in fact 1.5 and 1.4 probably should have been merged, but even though they aren't, Minecraft is vast and I can occupy myself with it very easily.
If any people with complaints come down on me like bricks, I'll take out my anti-no-ability rail gun and blast them all out of my way. It's funny how all the people whining about things are the ones who can't do it themselves. People who complain about mods, or mods that aren't updated fast enough, can't make the mods. People who complain that Notch doesn't release content fast enough... can't program in Java well enough to make Minecraft, and most simply can't code. Those who sit back and say, ohhh so Notch is going to release this next week, but I bet it'll be at the end of the week, but I can run on my excitement for this update, so it doesn't matter to me, are the ones who can do it, or the ones who understand the difficulty... oh wait, I apply here, to both cases. But I don't see a point in programming Minecraft if it is already there, and I know there are lots of things that aren't easy to do or fix. I'm perfectly content with Minecraft, although I do have some criticism, it isn't even worthwhile to talk about.
And for those of you flamers who really want to pummel me thinking I'm a Notch fan-boy, you will be wasting your time. I am not a fan boy. I respect him, and I know what he has to do to make Minecraft function the way we want to. The difference between me and you is this (although, each point I am about to make does not apply to EVERYONE): I know my place in the grand scheme of Minecraft, and I also know that Minecraft isn't easy to make. Another thing is I know that Notch doesn't have to cater to us, and can add what he wants when he wants it, but he is open to suggestions. Notch is the same as all of us, he enjoys games, he just decided to make a game for himself, and for his own experience, and decided to share. Don't hate him or what he does simply because he doesn't make the watery deadlines he sets (not set in stone), he isn't EA or Treyarch, etc. Notch is Notch, a human, and can do what he wants with his game. We have Minecraft today because he was generous, and figured that he might as well make some money with a game that gained popularity at TIG, and now is world-wide and widely known, and remember, Notch is donating time from his life to keep us happy, and to satisfy his own gaming desires, so chill.

Also: Only a fraction of the people who play Minecraft are on this forum at all, much less posting and reading. The people here are likely to be the most vocal overall.

Sorry, but if the OP's concern is that updates are coming so fast they break mods, I have to point out the common-sense thing that you and he have both overlooked:
NO MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW AN UPDATE COMES OUT, IT WILL BREAK MODS THE DAY IT IS RELEASED.
And when it breaks a mod, it's up to the mod creator to fix it - how fast, or how slow is beyond Mojang's control. Sounds like the real issue is that mod makers aren't keeping up on their own work as fast as Notch does. Why should we hold up development of the game just because mod makers are slow on the uptake?

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
Just noticed this on Notch's Twitter:
"Doesn't really matter.. Mods are unsupported, and mod developers know that. We're going to keep developing the game."
And that is exactly as it should be.

Eventually, we'll get an API to make Minecraft friendly mods
True, this was indeed promised at some point, though it really just makes sense.
We do need to keep in mind that Alpha updates were usually fairly small leading up to the Halloween update.
This was followed by an extended period of building the company, settling in, traveling, etc. It seems to
me that Mojang are building steam which would suggest more frequent updates in the near future, not less.
In my opinion, this would be a good thing. True, not every single feature update holds interest for me
(e.g. cookies) but there has always been at least one feature in each that I have found extremely useful
(e.g. holding SHIFT on a ladder!).
Admittedly, depending on the complexity of your mod(s), it can be very time-consuming to update to a new version. I doubt that Mojang will slow the update release rate for modders, however. I think the best solution will be mod support, though it will still be up to the modders to keep up...

Well....... pigs struck by lightening turn into zombie pigmen.... is that enough???
I wrote this topic BEFORE they announced that...
anyways, I have all-ready drew back from my original post, I no longer think notch should update slowly.
I wonder how come that I wrote that at the end of page 1, 16 hours ago, and people STILL replies..

What's your reason for wanting him to update slower? He is already updating slowly IMO.
