On TheWova's Adrift map, I mostly used it for tools and armour starting out. GrimSkellington had a cool use for his, if he sees this thread. In my main world, I have one gold block acting as a pedestal for cake, and another as part of a glowstone chandelier in my awesome wood-panelled library/drawing room/lounge. If I get enough of it, I might inlay a into the side of one of the mountains near my base.
