For everyone wondering, this journal is cancelled, but I will be releasing very frequent world downloads and some occasional videos on Youtube to show off some things.
Hi everyone! My IGN is sdrogheggiante, and today I'm bringing you a new concept/idea for a survival let's play world.
Have you ever thought about making a Minecraft survival world with epic builds and cool looking farms, but just don't have time or imagination to do it? Well now there's me helping you here!
So, the idea with this let's play, is that you are going to be the ones who decide what the world is going to be shaped like, just as you were building it.
Let me explain a bit better:
I will be dividing every build or game session in various episodes. The episodes are not going to be uploaded on youtube or anything like that... I'm just gonna post all the screenshots of the progress I'm making for each episode. Once 10 - 15 episodes are out, I'm gonna start the next season. The fun part comes here though... the ones that will be choosing what I should build are you!
If sometimes I get good proposals but, can't decide the one I'm going for, I'll make a poll, where you can vote the best project.
IF THIS LINE IS GREEN, IT MEANS THAT I'M STILL ACCEPTING PROJECTS.
Now, let's get into it already:
I generated a world with a random seed and I made screenshots in each direction at 20 chunks, which means you can pretty much see everything, here they are:
North
East
South
West
Episode 1: Getting settled
Hey everybody! I just got the 1st episode worked out! It is a prep episode, before the 25 days period ends. You will see how they are gonna be structured and see if you like it... anyways, let's get straight into it, shall we?
So I started by raiding the village just as you wanted. It had a blacksmith and I found some decent loot to start off, I would have liked some obsidian too, but nope :/
After doing that I moved to the nearby plain area. I found a bunch of sheep and thought it would have been helpful to get a simple wool farm going. I made a pretty basic farm, but it gave me around 5 stacks of wool in 0.30h of gameplay.
The crops I found before in the village, turned out to be really useful. I could in fact breed more sheep, and since in the snapshot I'm playing they drop mutton, I use it as a food farm too.
With the remaining crops, I quickly made a wheat - carrots - potatoes farm, which... I'm not really using at the moment, but having a good food production is always a good thing right?
At this point I didn't really have nothing else to do, and I was about to give up on making the first episode come out so quickly but then I thought: what kind of crazy minecrafter doesn't go mining on his first day on a new world? And.... yeah, I went mining as you might have expected. I haven't been that lucky honestly. I haven't found a single diamond, or a mob spawner, or even a mineshaft... but the random caves full of iron and a ravine with a bunch of valuables in it, made me come back home with a smile on my face. For a first mining session of about 20 mins, I feel like this is a good result:
At the end I started making my very own little hut. It is the only thing I will every build by myself apart from farms, I promise. I decided to just build it because I felt like I couldn't just get already started with the project ideas you guys gave me. Consider it as a temporary storage room where I just keep all the stuff I need for my next builds...
(I know... pac-man doesn't really fit the style, but I LOVE HIM!)
And this is going to be the end of the first episode. The next ones are going to be much much longer and more focused on the builds rather then what I do in the background. Even though I might include some screenshots of my adventures around our world The next episode is gonna come out at the end of the 25 days period, which is the 23rd of august... (based on how many suggestions I get to start off the let's play)
Episode 2: Resource gathering and building preparations
Hey everybody! Here is episode 2 of my Forum Shaped World. Hope you like it!
In this second episode I do some really fruitful mining, finish my house and make some other adjustments to the world.
So to start off I guess I should show you how my house turned out right? Here it is!
I made a little path, just to make it look better, with granite, gravel and coarse dirt. I'm not really good at making paths, but I think this turned out better than expected. Tell me what you think about it.
Here are some other angles of the house:
The front (I actually changed the door to a dark oak wood door, one of the new ones)
The back-side
After completely finishing the house, I went to a little exploration. I found nothing really interesting so I don't have any good screenshots to show... but I found pumpkins and made a manual farm. Nothing to fancy, and really... I'm never gonna use pumpkins, but it's always good to have a little bit of everything that's in the game right?
The farm is a 8x8 and has 2 floors.
After making the pumpkin farm I decided to go look for some diamonds, because I only had the one I found in the blacksmith's house. Eventually, while dropping in my strip mine, I missed the ladder and.. you know the rest. Lost 31 levels, not a big deal since I don't have an enchantment table, but dang they were 31!
Later on, I even expanded the sheep farm and looked for some cows, but found nothing for the moment...
Now, some days passed and you can notice the mutton texture actually changed in the hotbar... I went exploring a bit and found a desert village. Nothing really important to notice, there wasn't even a blacksmith... but for the sake of entertainment (?) here's a screenshot!
I went down in a cave/ravine thing and decided to not go back on the surface until I found diamonds and luckiest thing in my life (even though it happened at least other 2 times to me), I found 4 diamond chunks stick together! I couldn't get the 4 veins in a single screenshot, but I managed to get at least 2 in 1. I can tell you though, that the 4 diamond veins were something like 10 blocks distant from each other!
Here are the screenshots, I got 16 diamonds total.
I then got back home, built a nice little sugar cane farm and found FINALLY some cows. I looked for them all over the world! Here is a screenshot just to end this episode, of the entire land I built on.
Hope you enjoyed!
Thanks for the support everybody! I'll see you in the next episode in which I'm going to start one of the accepted projects. Guess which one it is?
I'm gonna make 1 - 2 episodes per week which means 1 or 2 builds (that is time related though, if I have a big thing going on it may take a while for a build to be finished).
When a season ends, I might record a little 5 mins video showing all I've built and publish it on youtube with some background music.
I'm also going to release frequent world downloads, so that I have online backups, which is always better than the ones I'll do on my pc (it might get struck by a lightning, who knows)
The list of accepted and done project can be found here:
Accepted projects:
-Make an area with destruction and death and viceversa
-Make a mad scientist lab
-Make some desert oasis (Maybe with villagers?)
-Make temple and/or sacrifice altars for some sort of rituals for the.. minecraft Gods(?)
-Use a Industry-like style, maybe with abandoned areas, when it is possible
-Make a realistic looking Quarry (not like Buildcraft ones)
Just another little note: the projects I'm going to be making are not 8 years old projects, so keep in mind that if you are going to give a suggestion, it must be good, related to the style I'm going for the overhaul world and at least a medium size build, cause I'm not gonna make an episode for me making my dirt house!
Ps: do NOT suggest farms, because I will build them when I think it's necessary and/or needed for a build.
This is a more or less unique concept of world survival so we need unique ideas. Perhaps buildings can be in the style of industrial but extremely colourful inside?
So you think we should make builds look like a industry but in the inside make it look like there are mixtures going on and such? Or by "colorful inside" you mean that I should use more colors to make it look more fancy?
I was thinking abandoned industrial buildings that have so much graffiti cluttering the walls that it's somewhat a misshapen rainbow. I'd more so go with your first question, because that sounds like what I'm imagining.
I've never seen an interpretation of it in Minecraft before, and I'm curious to see the result.
Alright... looks like a bit of people are interested in the thing
I'm gonna play for sometime now, just getting the basic things in the world done, such as mining, getting some diamonds and maybe make a little settlement, anyway, nothing too cool to make an episode about. I think that every episode is just gonna be related to the build, and not on everything else I do. Maybe I will include some exploration screenshots now and then.
I have another suggestion... maybe for the buildings you could try making a medieval style house, and keep on building to try to create your own village!
The idea is cool. I like the medieval style, but for most of my builds I'll go with they industry like style.
For everything that concerns the village, I'll be securing it and probably make it prosper to his max. If I will have to build any new houses, or maybe even taking down the current ones, I'll go with the medieval style. This map will have a piece of everyone on the forum that wants to cooperate and the village will be a part of you, even if it's not you directly building it. This goes the same for every other project.
is something that I would have done... but not in the style of a buildcraft quarry. I was thinking about something that looks more like a real quarry
Although, if I am ever going to make it... I think it's gonna be an end game project, or at least, you won't see it until end of season 1 / start of season 2...
But thanks for your suggestion! For sure another thing to add to the world
As I mentioned in the thread info, do not suggest farms. I'll build them by myself, when I feel the need of mass producing something.
Anyway, a mob farm is indeed one of the things I'll build as soon as I get the necessary resources. I'd suggest maybe the etho's spawner design... Although I may need to light up a lot of caves.
May I suggest, when you're well off on resources and such, taking a horse and searching for a Mesa? If it's not to much trouble, maybe a caravan of donkeys and a horse? Sort of in the style of Arabian traders?
