Hi,
So a few days ago, Minecraft froze and I had to re-boot my computer. I couldn't even ALT + F4 or ctrl + alt + delete it, my computer was unresponsive. This usually happens once ever 2-3 days, its nothing too bad, although sometimes my world dissapears and I have to go through the whole ordeal of my spawn changing and whatnot. Well, now, because of the new save file format (Before, when my world dissapeared I could just click on the create a new world button in the save slot in which the world was in and I would get my old save back, although my spawn point would change, and my inventory would be gone) I can't seem to be able to get my save file back into the game. I still have it, It's still in my save file folder, it just doesn't appear in-game. I've tried dragging it out of the folder and putting it back in and that didn't fix it. I'm not sure what makes this happen but yeah, it's pretty annoying if you ask me. Anyone know how I can get my save file to appear in-game? Thanks in advance for anyone that replies!
P.S I posted this in the support forum, although I only got one serious reply. I'm gonna go ahead and see if I can get any other fellow Minecrafters to help me recover my save file!

First of all, if your world keeps disappearing, why didn't you just back up your save file every once in a while? It's not exactly difficult.
Secondly, I recall that there have been quite a lot of people asking about save files that are still in the folder but won't appear in Minecraft, but since I'm too lazy to find one, I point you to the search bar.
Search bar is broken as of now, and I'm not exactly sure what to search anyway. And I DO back up my savefiles, although its usually only once every 1-2 weeks. I have done SO much in the past week I would hate letting it all go to waste. :sad.gif:

If you know where the minecraft.jar file is then just delete that.
The next time you turn on minecraft and log in it should re-download that missing file.
Check the size of your level.dat and level_old.dat files. If they are 0 then you have a problem with a solution that I know of.
The level and level_old files contain your character information, from what I can tell. You can copy a set from a different save file. You will loose the inventory of the last character, and you might be in a position where you suffocate to death ... but you should be able to recover your world.
I actually have a whole thread about it. There's a link in my sig (its rather swamped right now but I'll give it a shot).
In any case, someone earlier pointed out that it's probably level.dat being corrupted.
you have 3 options, ranked in order of best to worst:
1. restore level.dat_old. (if I understand correctly, you have already tried this and it didn't work)
2. if you created the map after beta 1.3, create a map with the same name and map seed. you will lose your inventory and your spawn might be different, but the level won't break.
3. recreate a world with the same name. your inventory will be gone, your spawn will be different, and terrain generation will break and be inconsistent.
If you have already tried these things, there isn't really any point in uploading it, because this is what I would've done and if you have already confirmed that it doesn't work, there isn't much hope.
Unless you have an old copy of the world, a backup of any age, you can't fix the broken terrain generation, and I can't either. In any case, you might consider looking at my thread and reading about how to make metadata backups (you can restore a world broken like this from a metadata backup).
Furthermore, I'd prefer not to get PM's about it unless I ask for them. in future, please post in the thread.

I shall try that once I get back home.
Happens to mwah aswell!
Nope, that didn't work. Cmon, there must be SOMEONE out there that knows how to fix this :\

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Thanks, I'll see if I can find him and PM him.
