In this thread, 50% of the people are suggesting way too complicated things for someone in Algebra 2, 40% are way too un-educated to even post in this thread (trig=/=parabolas, algebra=/=triangles, trig=triangles!), and 9% are giving useful info, and I'm the 1% just spouting random pointlessness.
But on topic, I'd suggest doing the parabola thing (maybe implementing the coordinate system would be a good idea?), or better yet, DON'T USE MINECRAFT FOR ALGEBRA PROJECTS!!! Or make a redstone quadratic equation solver! Good luck.

No you didn't, because TNT damage doesn't stack.
See my About Me section for info about me.
1. Get a graphing calculator
2. Derive a series of simple quadratic formulas (y=2x^2+15, y=3x^2-10, etc.)
3. Have each pixel on the calculator represent a block in mincraft
4. Copy the graphs into minecraft
5. ???
6. Profit
you could
a) try to come up with an algorithm for map spawning
or :cool.gif: come up with some math-related reason for height, width, depth, speed, etc. of a mob trap
Hmmm... (checks Algebra 2 textbook)
Perhaps something relating to making a ditch or something with a rounded end near chunk (0,0) using a parabola and a line inequality to make the area in there... something to do with putting a door on it in the most ideal place and stating the coordinates of said door...
Ooh, I know! You could compare how many total blocks were exploded from a certain amount of TNT in an undisturbed flat area with no caves and only one type of block making up the ground! Then you could make a table of your results, graph it, and figure out if the sequence is arithmetic, geometric, or none of the above, and you can have pictures of the individual craters which you got your data from!
If this thing doesn't sound mathy and fun, I don't know what will.

WOAH, WAIT. Our eyes take pictures? Please tell me I can recover these pictures from another person.
You have to stick a thumb drive up their nose, drag and drop the pictures onto it, and then load them through your ear.
1. I almost have no clue what you're saying cause you've been obviously not going to english class too
2. Why in the world would you want to a project for school on a game? That just makes you look stupider than you are right now plus you look like a geek
Try creating a program on a graphing calculator to convert equations using the Pythagorean Theorem into quadrilaterals. Then create a physical example on Minecraft of the quadrilateral with the original equation written on a sign next to it. I'd do it for you, but I no longer have a graphing calculator to write it out on, so.. yeah.
Oh wait.. is that Algebra 2 or Geometry..? Damn math. x.x
I think you should write some sort of equation that determines your grade based on hours spent playing minecraft and hours that could have been spent studying. You don't even need to know any maths to be able to do this. Just hand in a piece of paper that says "Fail".
I heard you like maths.
Three guests check into a hotel room. The clerk says the bill is $30, so each guest pays $10. Later the clerk realizes the bill should only be $25. To rectify this, he gives the bellhop $5 to return to the guests. On the way to the room, the bellhop realizes that he cannot divide the money equally. As the guests didn't know the total of the revised bill, the bellhop decides to just give each guest $1 and keep $2 for himself.
Now that each of the guests has been given $1 back, each has paid $9, bringing the total paid to $27. The bellhop has $2. If the guests originally handed over $30, what happened to the remaining $1?

Shut up if you already know. :3
That really got me thinking! What remaining 1$?

I just want to lure children into my cave with promises of candy so I can enslave them and put them to work in my underground mushroom farm.

Just do your HW. Easy peasy.

Gold in minecraft is kinda like Macs in real life, only good to look at.
At first i was like [iapprove], but then i was like [SSSS], but then i [Notch].
Okay, you played a game more and studied math less -- may not have been your best choice, but what's done is done. You have time (albeit less than half the school year) left to work on fixing that. You do not have time to put this off, however. Minecraft is fun, but it's time to pass your Algebra 2 class -- with knowledge like algebra 2, Notch made MC ... if you get it together, what could you be able to make or do someday??
Youre behind, and having trouble relating to course content and present material -- talk with your teacher before you dig into this project, and be honest with them. Hopefully you can find some algebra 2 material in Minecraft to do a good project with. But it''ll still be a math project: math first, minecraft 2nd. And be prepared to follow through with your schoolwork, please. And if they aren't willing to have you do your project involving Minecraft, please realize Minecraft will be there in a few months (new and improved, even), but you only have now to pass your class.
You might want to mention these pages to your teacher, as they do demonstrate some of the math in Minecraft, and might help convince them of the potential for using MC as a math project topic.
I wish you luck, and hope you step up and tackle this project, and your algebra 2 course. Ultimately, it's in your hands, but you can make it through this.

A few places math occurs in minecraft (don't worry if they include a few things that seem a little advanced):
- explosions: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Explosion
- wheat and water: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Farming
