I see.. thread after thread people getting torn apart because they "pirated the game"
I see threads that are "personal appeals to pirates" asking them to stop and telling them how lowly and awful they are.
What I don't see is the point.
Notch himself said that its not losing him money.
This is a quote from Notch's blog, September 14th,
If someone pirates Minecraft instead of buying it, it means I’ve lost some “potential” revenue. Not actual revenue, as I can never go into debt by people pirating the game too much, but I might’ve made even more if that person had bought the game instead. But what if that person likes that game, talks about it to his or her friends, and then I manage to convince three of them to buy the game? I’d make three actual sales instead of blocking out the potentially missed sale of the original person which never cost me any money in the first case.
Instead of just relying on guilt tripping pirates into buying, or wasting time and money trying to stop them, I can offer online-only services that actually add to the game experience. Online level saving, centralized skins, friends lists and secure name verification for multiplayer. None of these features can be accessed by people with pirated versions of the game, and hopefully they can be features that turn pirates from thieves into potential customers.
So Notch himself speculates pirates cause him no loss of profit, and may even gain him some money.
Of course he doesn't WANT people to pirate, but, I mean come up, this is the most logical thing Ive ever heard someone say in regards to pirating.
But yet SO MANY people on here bash pirates.
Its not a big deal. Especially because in no way does it affect YOU.
Am I supporting pirates? Absolutely not. I'm sure ill get 50% retards that call me a pirate or that I support it.
I think everyone should pay for the game. That's fair to all, notch gets his dues, everyone's on the same boat.
But the amount on which pirates are bashed is obscene. Live and let live. Someone pirating minecraft is little different that pirating music, and i'm sure 99% of everyone on here does that.
I used to play this other game a few years ago. I bought it for 20$, and there were thousands upon thousands of free players complaining that they don't get enough content, when free players have access to about 90% of the game. We who paid only gained about 10% more access, and the free players continued to whine that they didn't get enough content.
I guess its more of a "We paid for the game and they get the exact same thing for free" thing.
They don't get updates.
But yeah I know what you mean.
Exactly. They don't get updates. So basically they have a demo version of the game. They may end up buying it themselves, or their friends see it and buy it. I will say it again, the big man himself speculates pirates are MAKING HIM MONEY...

How often do you hear a pirate whine on this game they are not getting updates? Never. If a pirate were to complain about that, then by all means yes, rip them to shreds, but the scenario you just presented is null in minecraft.

I was trying to explain my first post with that analogy.

Except they dont get the updates o.O so they arnt getting the "exact same thing" your first post states.
Lets forget Minecraft for a second, pirating is illegal and its stealing...
That is all, I'm going now.
Piracy is not stealing
theft is when you take something from someone
piracy is making a copy.
imagine someone stole your car while you slept, but it was still there when you woke up.
thats what piracy is like.
in this thread, which you admitted yourself, has popped up time and time again in one form or another.
Being a hypocrite, ill go on. Without people buying the game, the game doesnt continue, notch has to find other work. Lots of people pay for the game, so it can continue. Mr pirate comes along (after stealing the game) and has the cheek to ask for advice about said stolen product, from the people that have paid and supported the developement of the game which they have simply stolen.
I stole an ipad the other day from an apple shop, wasnt sure how to turn it on so i went back and asked.
So apparently, everyone has pirated after notch hit 1 million sales.

gee.
Your logic. It makes no sense to Sky. She is confused.
Easily the most informative and generally well-reasoned articles I've read on piracy. Long, but if you really care about the information it is worth reading and deciding for yourself.

they have to wait for someone who has paid to re-upload the new files into a torrent for them to download
paid users just open minecraft and can play
Just going to drop that there.
