I've been searching my world for quite some time, but I cannot find any squids. I've tried playing on peaceful, normal, and hard, but that does nothing. I've searched beaches and shallow waters....but I still cannot find any squids.
Is there something wrong with my world? I created it after the Beta 1.3 update. Please help, thanks.
After 5 squids have spawned for the first time, no more will until the current ones have been killed. Squids are the first mob Notch has created which do not despawn. I suggest you return to your spawn point and search for squids in any nearby water.
I was wondering about this too. I even created a well-lit pool (using jack-o-lanterns and some torches in air pockets) with a dirt floor, about 3 blocks deep, thinking that would help. Nothing.
I usually find them pretty easy :tongue.gif: How to Find Squids
hop in a boat
turn your f3 on
sail around
look for NPC codes in the water
party with the squids.

Thanks...I'll try this. The first thing I did when I made my world was explore about 300 blocks in every direction...Great.
I havent found naything that says they dont despawn. Where did you get that?
I for one have confirmed it. I have an aquarium with a squid who hasn't despawned in over a month. And I've shut down the server and even gone on expeditions and he remains there to this day.
That's awesome that they don't despawn. I think I just thought of an effective way to get an aquarium with a squid or two.
>make an aquarium
>go out hunting for squid using f3
>COME BACK TO AQUARIUM TO FIND SQUID <3

They forgot to remove ID codes from mobs during last update (these novice mistakes are finally starting to annoy me) so you can press F3 and see mobs through walls and stuff by the numbers over their heads.
kevin - I've noticed that I couldn't find any squids in my world either, but the problem was that they spawned incredibly deep in the ocean and I couldn't see them very well from sea level (on ground). Try going underwater and seeing if you can see any.

Thanks. How do you find them with the F3 method? Anybody know?
I went to a lake where they are plentiful, bug a minecart track under them. and created a whirl pool type thing to pull them in this hole. Then they float down a small canal and drop in a mine cart, where i transport them back home.
