In reality you can just burn diamonds. The popular method is with a concentrated beam of light. They're just a lump of carbon, pressed into a convenient crystal matrix. They burn just like high grade coal.
On the other hand, that's nifty. But I feel like just dropping them and mining them would be faster and cheaper. Though maybe my megaconstructs just eat up my coal so I don't like wasting it.
Sorry if you know this...
But if you cheat to get normal diamond ore, you can burn it in a furnace, and get diamonds.
What is this... I don't even...
Diamond ore in furnace + Coal = Diamond Gem
It works, I once saw somebody doing it in a SMP server.
Wonder if it works with Coal ore, Lapis ore and Redstone ore, too.
Well of course I figured that.
But you cant get Diamond Ore without a Inventory Editor, and why not just grab the finished product? Waste of Lava buckets. or coal..

Tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.
When diamond was added to the game Notch originally intended it to be smelted to get the diamond we know today, much like iron or gold. He changed that soon after to getting diamond directly from mining it, but he never took the code out for smelting the ore.

Hey look buddy, I'm a builder. That means I build custom maps. Not maps like "Escapecraft 3", because that would fall within the purview of your idea of most puzzle maps. I build adventure maps. For instance, how am I going to allow some big old forum user to enjoy adventure to the fullest? The answer? Use a pyramid. And if that don't work, use more pyramid. Like this big, old, dusty pyramid designed by me. Built by me. And you'd best hope... being played by you.

Adding on, it is in Minepedia somewhere. :tongue.gif:

Thank you, I was greeted very kindly by a skeleton upon finding his cave.

No you can't join, stop asking.

Pretty simple, and it's not trolling! It works... Not sure why Notch would have implemented it, though...

This is probably how he intended it to be. Which in my opinion would have been funner.
Well of course I figured that.

As a jeweler I have, through personal experience, discovered that you do not need to soak them in liquid oxygen in order to burn them.
Ah.
