What stuff do you put in your worlds? Do you have giant builds, or giant farms?
I have been wanting to do a proper survival world now for a while and I am about to make the world, and I usually get bored of my worlds, so MC forums, I reach out to you for your thoughts!
Cheers!
Note; I haven't played single player survival in a long time
I start out my survival worlds by using hardcore and natural regeneration off (by /gamerule naturalRegeneration false). If you don't know what that is, it is that you can only regen hearts by potions or golden apples.
Because I do hardcore, I start out by hunkering down in a cave while finding resources to head to the nether for blaze rods (used for potions).
Once I got potions and have my health fully regenerated, I usually make giant farms for resources like wheat, melons, sugarcane. Then I focus more on aesthetic builds such as houses and forts.
When I start a world first thing I do is work on getting diamonds and an enchanting table, then I work on a large project that ends up taking a couple of months to finish.
I like to create one bigger base near spawn, and then branch out and make new settlements as I adventure out and find new cool locations. For example I have found 3 villages in a plains biome near my main base and turned them into well lit safe zones connected by gravel roads as well as making them generate natural iron golems with an apartment building or two, built in the same style as the rest of the village.
I'm not much of a builder though, not that I make mere dirt shacks but I don't try to do anything huge, just basic buildings with the occasional "bigger" project like my modern house made out of smoothstone and stained clay.
If you would see an overview map of my cave exploration however... In my eyes the undergrounds are the main gameplay element of the game: fighting monsters, looting the cave surfaces as well as uncovering its secrets (mineshafts, strongholds, dungeons, massive ravine systems...) is my joy. For this reason I am always hoping for caves to get an overhaul by Mojang some day, with new formations, structures (villages!), possibly underground biomes/zones, etc.
When I start a new world I always gather a bunch of wood and materials after I have gotten some iron tools and armor. Then I make my first house (I don't build it smaller or less detailed just because it's my first house) and then I usually make a wheat farm so I have a sustainable source of food. Then I go and make a strip mine so I can make an enchantment table and enchant (because by that point I am already around level 30 and I HATE wasting xp) then I just go and build whatever my heart desires
I start by digging a staircase down to bedrock for my mine, with a temporary shelter near the entrance underground, then collect materials to make a real base, which is something that takes a couple real-time days to build; you can get an idea of the size:
After I finish my base I find a stronghold and loot it, then go to the End and defeat the dragon, then (if I haven't already) finish enchanting all of my "caving" items (mining Nether quartz to get XP; I've never made a sustainable XP farm since I get plenty of XP from regular gameplay to repair items and don't need to enchant anymore). After that, my gameplay is pretty much the same as Bjossi's (the jungle tree farm you see above is just for wood for torches); I did make secondary bases in my first main world but haven't bothered since I started using an Ender chest as a backpack, making each caving session last far longer and making bases redundant (I previously used an Ender chest + regular chest as storage, making return trips to my main base when they were full; using unenchanted iron pickaxes for mining also meant that it took longer to mine out all the caves in the area, I also didn't mine all coal until 1.6 came out with coal blocks, so it took much longer to fill the chests up).
Otherwise, the only surface features beside my base are 1x1 cobblestone pillars about 20 blocks high marking where I left off (I removed ones near my base but don't bother removing others, plus they can be used as landmarks).
I first make a small temporary base (NOT a dirt house, I dig a hole in a mountain) then I get enough supplies to make a big and awesome house, then I make a awesome house with awesome everything!

It takes you 6 seconds to read all of this, 0.3 seconds to look at the egg, 0.2 seconds to click it, 3 seconds to read it's description, 1 second to exit out the page, and 10 seconds to forget it ever happened. :3
I leave everything on the default settings, and click 'create world'.
This is how I too go about creating a world in Minecraft.
As far as my routine goes;
I usually start of much like everyone else: 1. Get Wood. 2. Make Crafting Table. 3. ??? 4. Profit.
I tend to have the same habit of building a small, quaint house with extensive underground storage. I then spend the rest of my time either working on community builds (SMP) or mining with no real goal in mind.

I got tired of starting from scratch every time I make a new world. I've got the basics down and I can survive through the initial period where we all gather materials and food. Since not every world starts you off in an ideal spot and since I like to build on or near my spawn point, I've been starting new worlds in Creative Mode and scouting out the nearby area. If it looks promising I'll build a small shelter and enough tools and supplies to let me start a major project then switch back to Survival and play from there.

I believe he meant to say routine but spelled it wrong.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
