So I'm just gonna do updates and if anyone is interested and wants to add their thoughts and suggestions they can.
In the "What have you done recently" thread I posted that last weekend I leveled the mountain next to the church so the back extension, the vestry; could have the proper roof it needed not joining onto the mountain next to it. With that done and the land becoming a new graveyard, the next big project was never far away...
At present the current underwater tunnel for the minecart, goes across via the church, Mount DOOOOm and stopping at my Multiplayer home/shrine copy from the first sever I joined, going directly underneath the bridge. To give you an idea of the time frame, I think it was before the [then] cobble bridge got re-vamped - and it was before the likes of night vision and water breathing potions (Potions in general.), as well as stained glass!
Currently:
After the bridge got re-vamped, I've felt it looked a bit cluttered with the underwater tunnel directly underneath. So, in the home instead of an aquarium room (Underneath the art gallery & trading area via the library.), I will make that more of a comfy waiting room for the new tunnel. The new tunnel will continue out into the sea from the center of big bay window, with: a new circular design, made from light blue stained glass, exterior supporting rings (Probably stone-brick), nice floor and better lighting.
Thankfully I've got potions of water breathing and night vision this time (Had to make the latter today as I had none) as well as a pair of gold Depth Strider II boots I got of a skeleton once in battle. The DS boots are heaven! Side note: I've never actually made golden carrots in a survival world - needed for the night vision.
Start:
Technicalities:
*With the new route, going down to and through the library to get to it will be a pain. I'll simply add a second set of stairs down outside (Exterior of rear home-in-a-mountain) down to the shore. There is already an exterior secret door from the inside and outside of the trading area of the art gallery above the proposed room (Was to be aquarium is below that.); so that'll be a quicker route to it.
*When the old tunnel is gone, both ends will have to be blocked off, thus will the stairs into the ground down from the church. I have already subsidized this however, as for the longest time there is a cave in the exterior ground at the vestry end. Although covered over currently, it lies directly besides and below the new grave yard. When the new tunnel joins the old one, I will make this cave a mini-station platform from the church - so still joining from the church will be an option!

That resource/texture pack makes the gravel look like the Beta texture lol.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
4 years ago, I started played MCPE/Minecraft in general. Now, I have MCPC, and I'm still not bored of the blocky sandbox indie. Cuz awesomeness! Got a problem with that?
More recently I finally knocked down my old aesthetic (No us) apartment block built in Beta. The rest of the world modernized - especially with hardened clay, this building did not. Whilst Aesthetic builds are fine, in this world only I like my exterior buildings to have use so I decided not to replace it.
Currently I am making an oriental garden in it's place:

If anyone follows my progress for this world on the "What have you done recently" thread, you'll know I've been spending a lot of time fixing up Mount DOOOooom.
However, occasionally I need a break from it and so far it's been about three weeks and I've been doing odd little projects in it's place.. I decided to brighten up the storage room for one, as it's been these colors for a couple of years and was looking a bit dowdy and dark.
BEFORE:
(It was unfinished here, but you get the idea):
The back panels behind the chests have also had a splash of new colour with vibrant blue.
I've also changed the layout slightly in my underground food farms, instead of two farms facing each other (Carrot, potatoes) ; I just have one slope with half and half of the foods and they all go into hoppers now. Also added more lights in the formal dinning room so now mobs spawn at all in there now! As well as making and old alpha spider dungeon more efficient with a sand floor and cacti - with hoppers between said cacti that are connected to chests underneath. The dungeon is past my lighthouse by the old remaining alpha-built watch tower. Which, I was going to modernize too but will leave it as it is as a monument. (The design I had for it's replacement, I may have found a place to build it!)
More recently (very) I decided to change my board-walk up, it had been theese wood colors since the summer of 2014 where, the border used to be in by one block and there were stone slabs previously where the border was until recently.
Summer 2014 - until recently:
After:
Also, becaus ethe new pattern wouldn't line up to the steps by the well or the stiars up to the sheep pen, I snaked the boards walk round to the right of the well instead of the left and changed the gravel path so it connects on that side also. Later after the "After" picture was taken I changed the stairs up to the sheep pen anyway - so they've side on, instead of straight on up to it.
I also sort of went on an adventure, well; I went past the horse barn beyond the mountain to steal a bit of gravel from old beta gravel beaches and noticed caves. I wondered if I had ever been in them and apparently, I hadn't! It was all in vein though as I died lost all my diamond tools, iron food, everything. Couldn't find where I died. I went back up and got logs/wood for sticks and planks and wasn't coming up until I had diamond tools again. Didn't find one bit of iron at first, which was annoying because this found me first:
Good haul though, I got all my diamond tools back and a few spare with a stack and half/quater of iron as well.

*Despite the editor nearly eating all the pictures on page #1, I've just edited the library and art gallery/Trading area pictures. The former has had more log beams added to the plain snow walls in recent weeks and the villagers in the trading area have a lot more light (glass) in their area and a farm in recent weeks.

So, after resurrecting this thread, I finally went back to work on Mount DOOOooom. When your doing a big renovation project - sometimes you need a break, which I had for 3 - 4 weeks. It always helps to have a break and then come back with fresh eyes.
One of the first things I did was re-instate the grass inside. Before I wasn't sure what to do with the ground within the compound, so I just turned all the grass into stone until I could decide. Coming back to it, it was just too much grey, although it took and age to convert (To stone), it took a good couple of in-game minecraft nights to revert back - except this time I added lots of long grass and went crazy with the bonemeal. (Also added paths.)
TOO MUCH GREY:
After:
I also did something that wasn't done before and converted around the sides and back too, which was original stone, patches of cobble and sand from the original landscape.
*Eventually after placing extra dirt blocks to the side of DOOOooom, the grass is now growing at a very fast rate!
I really like this now and was inspired by pictures from a Google search of old buildings, where nature has also either taked over or blended with the old building.
In the last few days (having experimented on a creative copy of the world) I have also extended the detail of the top of the corner towers to the lower halves. This includes extra spruce log coulmns in certain corners/facing walls and stairs on the corners instead of blocks to give that depth. On the top half of the towers I also added stair combinatons between certain corners on the outside, mounted exterior torches on low cobble walls/general lighting up the outside of each tower.
Untreated (Right) & Treated (left) top of towers:
Untreated bottom of towers:
*As of right now, I have this done this to the front two corner towers.
I'm still rebuilding the main tower and although (Not in this next picture however), I have added a couple of floors, I'm not feeling the whole "Floating in mid-air" any more. It did technically connect to the main lower central building (The original lower half of the mountain, seen in this next pic), but I dunno. *This pre-dated picture also shows in the center where the old Beta "Stem" building was. (Look to the left of the W.I.P. tower right in the middle; where the dirt patch is on the top of the stone roof of said main building). The stem building was always ear-marked for a re-furnish or a re-build when I began re-modelling, I choose the latter.
Part of me has considered (And done in a creative copy of the world), just flattening the central low building (Former mountain base) and floating tower completetly, just to see how much space I would have. With the fourth corner tower now built externally, (Three years after the other three were built); and completed on the outside (Except these new detailing bits to do now and the isides to do), I feel they really have set the tone for thie re-model.
There are bits I still don't like - the thin inner fort wallt, he flat main walls on the perimeter side and back - should I continue the log/redstoneblock totum theme all round?

Oooh, me likey the detail on the towers. The clever use of stairs that way....I'm having difficulty making out just how you did that from looking at the pictures but I think I have an idea what you did there. I think the oriental garden is an excellent replacement for the useless apartment building. I too like the structures I build to have more of a purpose than just looks.

Thanks, it really is just a case of laying a stair in front of me the usual way, then one above it, upside down. The backs still gives the look of a normal block on the inside.

Still have the detailing on the back corner towers to do, but decided to work around the back of the fort adressing another elephant in the room - the original very flat back of the main middle lower building.
What I would do here would make or break the decision to keep or demolish this middle, main building - originally the base of a mountain.
I decided I wanted to try bring the wall out a bit, not with a full circle but a half-one. It couldn't be too wide as it would reduce the outer space around it, especially as there was another tower right next to it. So, I built a half-circle extention onto this flat wall. The other advantage would be that the very narrow hallways inside would also be greatly widened because of it and would benefit greatly as you'll see.
Early base structure:
This is a lower level inside before:
AFTER:
An underground passage before:
after:
Basement:
*More furnishing to be done of course
This new room opened up due to the extention, but as you can see it was 3 - 4 blocks higher originally:
*More furnishing to be done of course
Around the side, I demolished the single width wall that went around the side and back but decided to leave some remains like ruins. There was a sort of half-circle on the side but not a very good one. Inside that side part I demolished a carbunkle of cobble double-width stairs that wound around to the bottom, and replaced it with a traditional wooden spiral staircase. After doing so I build a new half-circle around it and demolished the old one, giving the spiral staircase much more room around it. When I got to the first floor however, I almost stopped as it was a nice look-out balcony. The only trouble was the new half-circle cut off the left stairs round the front of the building, so I continued building the spiral stair case up with window slits and connecting to an upper floor. It does have a nice second balcony top though.
The old half-circle on the side with the now demolished fort wall, formally around it.

These arial shots show the new shapes emerging from the work:
Map changes: *Mostly the top of the bottom right map showing the back.
More arial shots:
Side & back before:
After:
*Any log stumps you see lining the inner walls are columns waiting to be done, it's forever a grind to keep chopping the spruce trees down.
With the side fort wall (Perimeter on the beach) I had to re do the columns, which also meant re-positioning all the windows inside too. My only urk is the side half-sircle is against a very flat wall. I think we can safely say however, the lower main building has been saved and I'm keeping it re-furbished not demolishing it. At the front of the fort I have also replaced many Oak trees by the minecart line with the double spruce trees.

So the latest news is, after rebuilding the main tower I've had to demolish it again - even though it had only reached three levels. Inside the main tower there wasn't enough room around the spiral staircase, simply the new tower was just too small. Over night I started at the top of level #3 and mined/chopped all the resources and stuck them in a chest. The rebuild went well and I did the detailing as I built each level up rather than afterwards due to reasons of safety.
At the top I finally started envisioning the gargoyle/dragon's head that would have lava coming out it's mouth, so there was only one lava fall not two like originally.
*Excuse the dirt platforms, safety first!
Not sure about what to do with the level behind it yet. On one creative copy of this world, I did cobble spiney rib cages. part of me has thought about doing that or embedding it in a roof. On the copy however, the lava fell just behind the front gate, when I went to do it on the actual survival world however, things went a little.. wrong.
I played it safe and returned home to get fire resistance potions, put eveything in a double chest for aafety. All I had on me was the two buckets of lava and some cobble bits from inside the statue's mouth. I drank the potion and added the lava, but it did not fall where expexted. Suffice to say I didn't realize how far forward it protruded..
The following morning:
inside:
front outside:
As well as the log columns it had wood floors inside and went up like the 4th July. Using the last 4 minutes or so of my potion, I legged it back up to the top of the tower and scooped the lava back up into the buckets. All I could do once back down was let it burn out. Although I braved the fire with less than two minutes to go, using cobble to block off around the chests inside. Suffice to say I have been chopping lots of spruce trees to fix the damage! I will have another try and have plans, the lava may be into two streams after all - coming out the sides of it's mouth.
With the repairs I also noted the outside perimeter decoration of spruce stairs was higher up around the right side where I started, then where it was at the front. This has been corrected.
Science Lab
I've talked about this before, but I think I am going to extend the science lab. Currently as you go into the lab, you walk directly into it, and next door there is a little kitchen type/coummunity area that leads onto the hazzardous area on the right:
What I plan to do, is swap the rooms, have the kitcheny/community area as you enter the lab (Where it is now) as a safe zone, allbeit on a slightly bigger scale due to more room; and have the lab where said kitchen/community area is currently. By swapping them I can rebuild the lab in the second part and there's plenty of mountain to extend back in two directions. It'll probably get a new colour scheme also using the colored concerete, and will be the first room to utilize the new blocks.

More updates on Mount DOOOooom.

This new room opened up due to the extention, but as you can see it was 3 - 4 blocks higher originally:

Small disaster at Mount DOOOooom
NOW IN 1.12
So the latest news is, after rebuilding the main tower I've had to demolish it again - even though it had only reached three levels.
The following morning:
