As noted in another post, I have begun to strip mine underneath my base. So far, I have dug out three and a half 40 × 40 blocks at Y:11 to search for diamonds. While I'm working, I am plagued by slimes, so there must be a slime chunk down there somewhere. How do you determine the boundaries of a slime chunk? I could build a slime farm down there; plenty of videos that will help me come up with a good design.

well a chunk is a 16x16 area of blocks.
You can push F3 and determine which chunk you're in and also find the chunk boundaries.
Now, to find which chunk is actually the slime chunk, you can either do trial and error: fill in some chunks and see if Slimes still spawn, or you can use a chunk finder. http://chunkbase.com/apps/slime-finder
Just put in your seed and find out which chunks are slime chunks.
Remember though: Slime chunks only go up to level 39 (inclusive), and Giant Slimes require a 3x3x3 volume to spawn.

Couldn't have said it better myself. One thing to add: if you don't want slimes at all, you could always half slab the entire chunk (torches won't work, because slimes spawn in any light level).
Well, since I last posted, I have created a two-chunk two-level slime farm. The slime chunks were adjacent to each other, so I thought, why not? What a pain. It's producing decent slime, but since I'm not running any of the snapshots, all that slime is worthless. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I still have another five or so levels to go to utilize everything up to Y=39, but there's no rush.
