I prefer peaceful, just for the exploring and building without interruption, but every now and then I switch it to Normal. If the enemies were remotely interesting, or had remotely valuable drops, I'd bother with them more. That not being the case, I couldn't care less most of the time about seeing them.
I play on Normal. I remember people saying something about there being a lot less mobs on Hard (but they do more damage), which is dumb. More mobs, more excitement. Has it changed at all in the recent patches?
I'm surprised there are so many leetle peaceful baybees. Guess you guys are waiting for the new Creative mode. But really, shouldn't you just be using MCEdit or something if all you want to do is build? There's no reason to do it by hand.

that is false, difficulty has no effect on spawn rates. this has been tested, and people have looked at the code.
also, the combat in Minecraft is laughable, and not the point of the game. the danger of monsters just gives the game a little oomph, and some people don't care about oomph.

Well, if everything is covered in semen, once you turn the blacklight on, it'll look like daytime 24/7.
Because of copious amounts of rooster sperm.

It's as big of a point as anything else in the game. Perhaps even the biggest point, in "survival" mode, anyway.

that's just one more opinion. this game is about building stuff. the monsters just add more to the game. some people don't like what the monsters add so they take it out.
i do like what the monsters add so i leave them in. hell, i added more monsters, Mo Creatures mod FTW

Nope. It's an insult to the game to say that, really. "Building stuff" is just a large part of the game. It isn't THE GAME (of course it CAN be, depending on the person). There are many more modes and aspects of the game yet to be added. Remember, it isn't finished. If you think it's about "building stuff", in the purest sense, you might as well not PLAY the game and just use MCEdit, or something. I know you don't mean it in that sense, I'm just saying. The two words "building stuff" is a poor, overly simple way to describe the game.
I guess we're starting to derail the thread. So I'll stop.
Some times peaceful or easy if I'm building massive things. (Castle etc.)
My humble LPs can be found here.
(10/5/15) If you want to have a laugh, go look at some of my posts from back in ~2010 ( i was 10/11 what can i say)
(02/12/21) cannot believe i still play this game
Pick one.
No you can't join, stop asking.
what is the point of a fortress if the is nothing that it will protect you from?
what is the point of a farm if peaceful just heals me up?
why make cake if i never get to eat it?
so i play on normal, so that i can eat cake.

I guess I'll start playing on Hard, then.
Does not compute. There are much more "high-tech" games/tools to use to build virtual worlds too, guy.

Peaceful - When I want to just BUILD.
Easy - When I explore.
Normal - Rarely.
Hard - For challenging fights, or thrilling adventures.
I zap people. I zap them in the head, feet, hands, arms, eyes, ears and their genit.....
Whoops!
