I dug a small area in a hill to build stuff in during night time - I left a 1 square opening to see out, and had some torches. I some mobs ended up seeing me and then coming to my entrance and just stood or jumped in place until it turned light out and they burned to death. At that point, I realized Survival mode was misleading and that there was little to no challenge.
Well back when Alpha had snow (BRING THAT BACK NOTCH >:sad.gif: ) falling from the sky I didnt know anything about crafting other then to punch trees for sticks to hit pigs with. It was literally my first time ever playing Alpha.
ME: *hits pig with stick "So is this like a farming game?
*hears grunting sounds
I then dug a 1x9 hole into a bunch of stone looking up scared shitless.
I explored all day, and all the while looking at trees but I always thought they were too awesome to cut down. I didn't know you needed coal for torches, or that there were monsters, I didn't know anything. (I had just bought the game due to my boyfriend nagging :tongue.gif:). After about 10 minutes, the day cycle, I noticed everything was getting.. dark. Then darker, and I heard noises that I would later learn were zombies and skellingtons. I ran fast, far, and away from these scary beasts. The first "UGHS" were the scariest, and being no light in the world, there was nothing I could see to do. I didn't know which way to turn away from, which way to run, or where to go. I just ran, but after minute collided with something that made me think. I stood for a second pondering a knew sound. Was I walking on sand.?. preposterous I wasn't moving.. but..
Boom.
I turned minecraft off and went downstairs, turning every light on in the house, locked myself in the bathroom for 10 minutes before I convinced myself they weren't real. Coming out of the bathroom, I heard a "BOO!" which is deathly close to "BOOM!" and I jumped, peed a little, and raged my sister.
My first night? Pssh, amazing. First off, I first turned that **** up to Hard. LIKE. A. MAN. Everything went well until night was falling. I hadn't even started building anything yet! As I scramble around trying to find shelter, I notice a small cave in the side of a cliff. I make a beeline for it and waltz in like I own the place. Well, apparently the resident spider didn't appreciate that much, and proceeded to rape my face. But I wasn't taking that crap, so I fought that ******* off WITH MY BARE HANDS. After about a thousand clicks and well timed punches, I survive the battle with about 1 1/2 hearts left. And what were the spoils of my battle? A. ****ING. PIECE. OF. STRING. I then seal up the entrance of my new home with dirt, and go and cry in the corner. LIKE. A. MAN.

I watched all of his, Seananners, Paul's... Yes. All 50 or so, all 11 (at the time) or so, all whatever or so, he has many series. So I basically made a wall on a cool little nitch in a mountain, and got a bow on the first night :biggrin.gif:.

There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do.
And those that don't.
My first night...I already knew a bit about Minecraft, and I had played for like 2 minutes on my sister's computer, but I still wasn't very good at the game.
I spawned right next to a big hill with a gradual slope in a savannah biome. I explored for half the day, and not too far away, I found a forest biome. I punched some trees, got some wood, found some coal on a wall, mined that, and then looked for a suitable place to live.
For some reason, I chose a big valley in the end, and I started to build my house out of wood on the side of one of the steep walls. Unfortunately, I ran out of wood with night having already started with my house only being half finished and having no roof.
For some reason, though, it didn't occur to me to make a hole and hide there, so I just decided to man out the night, since it was possible for monsters to only come in from above. About 5 zombies fell into my house, and because I had crafted a stone sword, I was able to fend them all off, except for 1 last one that fell down as I was fighting another one, which killed me, just as morning was dawning. I finished my house the next day.
30 Minecraft days later, and I finally moved out of that horrid place, where creepers fell on me every other morning, to a small castle on top of the hill at the beginning of the story. In that world, I built a nice wall around a pretty big area, and now rule over my kingdom where its impossible for enemies to spawn!

I wandered into the inland of the continent I started on, and I realized it was getting dark. I'd heard all about that stuff, so I dug into the side of a cliff and make a hole for me that I could peak out of but the monsters couldn't shoot in from. I didn't know about torches, or that mobs only spawned in the dark, so I got lucky that nothing spawned in there with me. I did hollow it out rather nicely, though. I did it all by hand, even the rocks. I didn't know about pick axes yet.
I didn't know what a Creeper was, either, I'd just heard about zombies and skeletons. When I went outside the next morning to collect more dirt or something, a creeper got me. I tried to find the place that I camped the night before but I couldn't. I ended up building a new fort at the spawn point, and I got stuck inside because I didn't know how to make food or make a bow and arrow, and I was surrounded on all sides by creepers. I ragequit that world and started a new one where I looked up a tutorial on how to play first (PaulSoaresJr on Youtube. Love that guy :biggrin.gif: ) and I learned the basic crafting recipes, and what to look for in a permanent residence. So, really, my second world was the first real "play through" of minecraft. The first world was a test that ended horribly, haha.

At least you got to your first night.
I didn't know ANYTHING. For about ten minutes I tried to mine by strobe-clicking instead of holding down the mouse. (I never pick the machine gun in Cave Story either)
Haha. Well, I had screwed around on WorldOfMinecraft for a day or two. Basically, it was a version of Minecraft Creative someone ripped and put onto one of the Chan sites. So, I had some familiarity with the game from the Creative Mode, but I got bored with it pretty fast. Then I heard you could have monsters in the game, and I was like "Huh, maybe this game is cooler than I thought." I bought Alpha when it was 1.something, I think, and I haven't looked back.
But, the ridiculous thing is: I was mining out solid stone with my fist. Do you know how long that takes? I hollowed out a section of a pretty decent sized hill, hahaha. Looking back, it's pretty funny that I spent a night punching stone and got killed by a creeper. Seems like a quintessential minecraft first night. Noobish action followed by death by the game's semi-official mascot
It was during that free weekend a while back. I started playing and I was like "oh cool, I can remove blocks. And hey, this dirt dropped something - another block?" Then it turned to night and I was all "Nighttime? How annoying, I can't see very well." Then, a zombie spawned and I figured " I can just punch it", not knowing that punch only takes a half-heart. Next, a skeleton spawned and started pooping out arrows at me.
I deleted the game, and totally forgot about it untill I saw a let's play one day and thought "Wow, you can build torches? And you can craft tools? Wood is useful?" About three days later, I bought the game.

I had no clue that sound was an integral part of the game. I was never scared.

I'm still afraid of the dark, thank-you notch.
