I'd say the dreaded creeper. This one is the smartest of them all imo. They have a complex pathfinding system. They blow up. They come in packs, large packs and almost every single one in the pack chooses a hiding spot so they can ambush the player! They can climb ladders, and worst of all... Their SILENT!

Ya i hate coming out of my house after a long night of mining and getting ambushed by three or four creepers
I find skeletons the most difficult because of the ranged attack. Spiders are a bizznatch too. Never saw the skeleton riding the spider. Ghasts are bad if you get too close. But considering how common skeletons are.... thats my choice.
Skellies for sure. Ghasts on their own are way to easy to dodge, the only advantage creepers have is silence, spiders can be punched to death without the need of food, zombies are slow and make lots of noise, and zombie pigs are friendly :3 I however have not encounter a skeleton riding a spider so I cant say for sure but a normal skeleton is relatively silent and attacks from a distance. If you try to close that distance it becomes near impossible to dodge his arrows. Every time I fight a skellie its a challenge.
Not counting spider jockeys, since I consider those to be two mobs.......
Strongest in a pack = Spiders (The Minecraft definition of gang-rape.) Strongest mob by itself = Ghast (No contest) Hardest Mob to Kill = Slimes (Killing slimes...just seems so wrong. You are supposed to name your slimes, and take then with you on journeys. They are your friends) Hardest mob to get rid of = Chickens (gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah)
This.
If you see a pack of 3 or more spiders, you might as well just bend over.
What do you think the hardest mob is? Hardest to kill, strongest, or just constantly kill you.
Spider Jockey is a skeleton riding a spider. I count it as one mob not two because its rare and most people have probably never seen it.
For zombie pigman im saying when you attack them. Not when they're neutral.
Ghasts are the hardest on swarms, because you can't possible deflect 5 fireballs being shot from all directions, plus they can destroy terrain and make fires, which is a pain in the infinitely burning nether. Also, if they put out your portal and you don't have Flint and Steel you're screwed.

You always have the chance of their fireball hitting your portal and relighting it
I went killing ghasts for two hours in my castle in the nether and let me say that if you use cobblestone, you have a much easier time fighting them (cover, no floor breakin, etc...)
BUT, I think the skeleton is the hardest, they just sit back and shoot you like a coward and force you to get a bow. Not only that, but I think my skeleton spawn rate is messed up, i see more of them than anything else.

my god i love you. that is wat im talking about!! but these twitter trolls wont stop!
I have to say creepers. Not only do they blow up, they always seem to be outside my front door no matter how many torches I have out there. I can get a hit in on them, but they always blow up right away. I've tried hitting them and backing away, I've also tried standing still and hitting them. They always blow up, GRRRR!

Skeletons, followed by spiders, followed by Ghasts.
Skeletons are most certainly from hell because they have bows and arrows. If you're not prepared, you're skeleton mince meat. Spiders also suck because they attack me to fast to keep them back. Ghasts then follow because they are always out of bow range, but playing tennis with them is fun. Though, they have a habit of ganging up on you in groups of 4+.

Skeleton's attack slowly, they are easy to predict, just strafe diagonally towards them and kill them, you shouldnt get hit at all, zig zag towards them, each time they shoot and miss, switch the direction ur zig zagging in, ull soon be close enough to hit them, when u get close enough just circle around them hitting them, backing off as they shoot, they shoot at a steady slow rate so with practice it's really really easy.
It's between Skeletons and Creepers, and honestly, it depends on circumstance. If it's on the surface, I'd say Skeletons are harder because there's little cover from their arrows. Likewise, Creepers are also much easier to get a hit in and backpedal when you're on the surface.
If I'm in a cave or other cramped area, Creepers are much more difficult because you can't really effectively back away from them once their fuse is lit. Skeletons' arrows are also really easy to avoid when you're in a cave because there's always a wall to duck behind.
That's all with swords, though. Once you get a bow and arrow, none of them are very dangerous unless a bunch are coming after you from many different directions.

Spiders can tear your legs off
Skeletons can skewer you with arrows
But the Creeper will stop at absolutely nothing to utterly destroy your house.

Yeah, zombie is hardest in SMP.

seriously, it shoots explosives at you, arrows at you. and spider string to stick you in one place [/sarcasm]
seriously though, spider jocky, i hate spiders, and skellys

That is a strategy I need to try.
