anyone have a layer guide? im currently at the bottom of the world, however, i read to mine at layer 11 or 12, but i cant figure out whether the layer numbering starts at the void (which is gone, correct?) or after the last unbreakable blocks or where the first unbreakable block is...
Other facts relating to depth:
Sea level is at 63
Apparently the bottom of the sea is never below 53
Lava level is at 10
Adminium gets progressively thicker from 4 downwards to 0.

13 is a very unlucky number but I found diamonds+redstone+iron in one shaft (first diamonds) That layer gives you a good view from ABOVE lava lakes so you don't get burned.

I personally count from the top down because you can't always depend on bedrock as 0. I build a simple tower near my mine entrance or house and mark every 5 levels. As I decent down the mine shaft, I put signs up every 4-5 levels so I always know where I am.
Hope that helps

Thanks a lot Notch. Now how am I supposed to get anything done?
Lava can be found above layer 10 now more frequently, so be careful. The majority is still there, But I've ran into pools as high as the surface, and several on 11-20. I've also seen water pools as far down as layer 13 or so. Personally this is the structure of my branch style strip mines. Enjoy.
