On our server we had a griefer who somehow made stacks of tnt. He wouldn't blow stuff up with it: instead he would litter the server with pressure plates, underneath which is usually a block or two of TNT. Every plate that normally closed a door would be rigged to blow. Sometimes there would be pressure plates in the middle of a rail track, also rigged.
And he would also place extra plates all over the place, 'dummy' ones. Sort of like terrorism...after some of the griefer's bigger bombs went off, everyone was afraid to step on a plate anywhere.
Once we finally caught him, before we banned him the griefer told us that HE never set off any of the TNT. It was our fault for not spotting it before it blew up our house. (sometimes the TNT would be set just right and would chain react, destroying an entire structure)
Not just minefields. He mentioned placing TNT beneath pressure plates used to operate doors, placing them at points along railroads, chaining several together to destroy an entire structure using hidden TNT. And then he has the gall to start faking everyone out with pressure plate spam, taking advantage of the chaos.
Minefields are so yesterday. This kid sounds like a demolitions expert. Dare I say a...
that guy is seriously awesome in my opinion. a true villian in minecraft.
if it does not break any server rules, its not griefing. i actually would say he should be commended for adding a lot of excitement to the server.
I MUST KNOW HIS NAME!
TELL ME WHO THIS GENIUS IS!
Technically, the people who stepped on the pressure plates were griefing, so he was in the right, because he never destroyed anything. If they want to defuse it, they can.

As a game and a clear distinction from fantasy and reality, this is pure genius. He must be having a blast (literally) with all the fun and chaos they are creating. Not directly, mind you, as their childish tautology argument implies. However, popular culture seems to embrace these types of things today.
And I take issue with your topic in general. You are asking if it is griefing, when pure logic states that it is, and then describing how you've already caught him and banned him. Why not just state that you are trolling and would like a few courtesy replies? You might get more.
He put up a sign with a button that says "do not press this button"!!!!
Guess what was behind it :sad.gif:
Also I was going along on our aerial train track and I saw a dip up ahead. Well, at the bottom of the dip was a pressure plate....
Our server is a warzone now. Craters where all our major stuff was. He rigged nearly everything before he was banned...we just didn't find all the bombs...
If someone set a mine in the middle of a field in real life and someone set it off, the 'WELL I JUST LEFT IT THERE, I DID'NT DETONATE IT' argument isn't going to get him out of jail time.
So yeah, you're totally justified in banning the guy.
That's pretty awesome actually. Almost like greifers are getting creative for once...
At least TNT traps are easier to spot then lava falling on your wood house while the mods are gone.
Dunno if we cleaned it all up yet, but we had one last dramatic explosion. We found a whole network of charges under one player's house, and several floor plates were around. I think someone stepped on one by accident (on purpose?) while we were trying to defuse the charges and there was a dramatic explosion. Everyone died and the house and greenhouse are now mostly a crater (the roof survived, that is all)
And he would also place extra plates all over the place, 'dummy' ones. Sort of like terrorism...after some of the griefer's bigger bombs went off, everyone was afraid to step on a plate anywhere.

survival, no, not griefing, you are being lame.
creative, yes, but why would you be spawning zombies and creepers on a creative server?
If Survival --- > Go to 2
If Creative--- > Go to 3
2.
If building server ---> Go to 3
If PVP server --- > Go to 4
If free - roam server --- > Go to 5
3.
Yes
4.
No
5.
If building TNT's beside buildings --- > Go to 3
If building TNT''s away from buildings --- > Go to 4
