Okay, so I'm new to Minecraft forums so don't blame me.
So I made a random world just to explore.
I head out randomly looking for stuff, and my computer was lagging so it was hard to move around. I go near a bunch off trees and I notice a cave opening in the ground. 3 or 4 blocks below me maybe? Anyway, I see flames. I walked up towards it, and it was a dungeon! Pics below.
Note: I DIDN'T dig up the cobblestone, I swear it was like that when I first saw it.

"Creepers just want hugs but when they get to you they realise they have no arms to hug you with so they explode from sadness... or something like that."
Why does being new to the forums make you unable to be blamed?
Because we assume that newcomers are all ignoramuses until they accumulate a double digit post count.
That's cool. I had a dungeon a little deeper, with a hole outside of my house (I didn't bother exploring it until I got supplies together.) Every morning, there would be dozens of spiders on my lawn and I would always wonder why. What was in the chests?

Everyone hates it because everyone overdoes the joke. The joke is also insaneley old and not even funny anymore.
Fine so we will never say Creeper jokes or Chicken spy jokes ever again then.
Kind of. Even though you say you didn't dig up the cobblestone, I have trouble believing it. xD.
I've seen a number of dungeons on or near the surface. Once I even found one sticking out of the edge of a mountain.
All dungeons have cobblestone around them naturally. I'm not sure what is hard to believe.
To the original poster, if you can get MineSeeder to work, can you use it to get the seed and post it here? If it doesn't work for you (a lot of people have trouble), you can just upload your level.dat file from the save directory.

Just regular dungeon things: :////:, :Iron:, Gunpowder, Saddle, etc.

I'll try Mineseeder out, but theres no promises that I'll get it to work.

because we dont want little kids (they are new so being young is assumed) to feel bad

After 10:30 PST, my IQ drops to around that of a shovel, please disregard anything I say after aforementioned time, it will likely not make any sense, and is best ignored.

Oh I've found a few dungeons on the surface too (in fact, the first dungeon I found was in a mountainside). My point is the way the cobblestone looks suggests that someone dug it out, to expose the dungeon more. All the dungeons I've seen and found have cobblestone walls between five and seven meters tall; this one has walls that are one to zero meters. But on the right side of the screen in the second picture, the walls go up the ceiling of the cave, and on the far side of the dungeon, the cobblestone forms an arch.
That is why I find the OP's tale hard to believe. It looks like the cobblestone was dug out, not placed.

You'll be surprised by how few people actually put a bathroom in their house. Where else would you ****? Where else?
MineSeeder is now up! Go check it out if you like! :biggrin.gif:

Obviously fake! Hes not even bothered to use the right textures!
On a serious note. While exploring I found a zombie dungeon under a small hill, above sea level once.
I was using the Splotchblock texture pack.

UPDATE:
MINESEEDER:
Note: I DIDN'T dig up the cobblestone, I swear it was like that when I first saw it.
Right behind my castle I saw a cave.
I went in and around the first corner dungeon.
Fixed.
Anyway, sometimes the map generator will do things like this, it's rare but not unheard of.

I use it as a storage room now.
So close to the surface as well
