K, so i've been playing minecraft pretty diligently these past few weeks. after digging my 10th open pit mine, locking all the baddies outside, simulating my own train system, building my 4th fortress...i need a little something...new?
Basically, i just need to find something to help spice up the game a bit. Not mobs mind you, that doesn't interest me. shut the door and they're done. I mean like new items, more craftables, give me a REASON to make that stupidly large castle, that ridiculously long road connecting small cities i've personally built from the ground up...
I don't know, i guess it's just because i've reached the limit of crafting that i'm looking for more? it's human nature i guess, but what ev. if anyone has any suggestions! (I've poured over this forum looking for stuff, even tried multiplayer a few times, but can't seem to find what i'm looking for?)

MY friends actually realize that real life has better graphics than any game, and that gameplay is infinitely better. Thus they all play Minecraft.
lol, i've fought off half a dozen creepers with my fists after i was killed by a lava flow....I can handle a night outside >..> the combat isn't that difficult xD

To me, the thrill of the game is exploring. Especially in caves. I also like collecting things such as ores and pumpkins.
I would suggest just dropping all your stuff into a chest save for a compass and taking a stroll into unexplored territory. Thanks to the generation code, there are often many interesting landmarks and formations out there. Or better yet, start a new world first. Who knows, you may get inspired to build something unique.

People are warned to shred the earth to get away from you before you have lost your marbles.
I'm Assuming you have already tried caves. (They are the real entertainment for me)
I'd give SMP a shot if you haven't yet. The game is a lot more fun with a friend/enemy. Competing on who can build a castle first, working together to clear a dungeon, racing each other to a spot, the list goes on and on.
The best part is, setting up a server is really easy, especially a local one. Invite a friend over who has minecraft, and play together. Give your buildings a purpose, show them off to someone else.

like your picture there? which i think, is brilliant! lol. nah, i've gone through so many freakin maps, i'm going to keep this one...i dunno, guess i was hoping for some little gadgets or something to make crafting/building a little more interesting.
and yeah, i've tried smp...like 4 different servers...no one said a word past hello...most everyone was single minded, didn't seem to open on any of my building ideas >.>

Find a really good friend then play SMP on your own server.(Host on your own pc if it can handle it) With just the two of you, it's fun building awesome things and showing each other your creations and exploring caves together, etc. I barley play SSP anymore because you're all alone.

I Play with my husband and his brother and its way better than single player, as long as you have someone to talk to. Not just any random server.
You should probably try out some mods that let you craft some more objects. google it dude i don't use them because the game itself is pretty awesome. But, another thing to do is to start a good new file.
make a request thread (more official looking) like "What should i build next? Taking requests."

After 10:30 PST, my IQ drops to around that of a shovel, please disregard anything I say after aforementioned time, it will likely not make any sense, and is best ignored.
For example: my game is played as a colony of dwarves who escaped the cataclysm of a different world. A burned out portal (cobblestone) near the spawn point marks the location of their desperate flight.
The first order of business was securing shelter so I did some cursory spelunking, securing large sections, flattening, lighting, and laying down some rooms fit for refugees. The next was setting up some basic colony infrastructure: some crafting tables, furnaces, storage. Since, in my narrative, the Dwarves were industrious colonists, it was time to expand. That necessitated deeper exploration into the cave, cordoning off dangerous areas, improving accommodations, and scouting out suitable mining locations.
As I built the mine at the chosen location, I simultaneously started securing the land it was on, setting up watch towers and fortifications, since my dwarves were also cautious. Spending so much time at the mine I realized it should have some lodgings of its own. Since a good number of Dwarves were now hard at work doing what they do best, it was high time to build a pub (on premise at the mine).
But a proper beer needs proper ingredients, so now I had to secure enough land to farm in earnest as well as access to a decent supply of freshwater. Then I needed a road between it all. That road needed lighting and guarding. Guards need armor which means proper forges.
Craft yourself a "framework" of backstory, put in arbitrary limitations and work around them. Ultimately you're building the same buildings and things that you did before, but if you wrap it in a narrative it feels much more satisfying.
I'm kinda trying that, but empty guard houses/watch towers kind of dampen my resolve. I found a few mods that I'd like to have, furniture mainly, but unfortunately the "permission denied" on my terminal is preventing this...i hate mac's...
but that sounds like a VERY awesome project (save for the dwarves, they aren't my favorite mythological race >.>) but i can definitely relate to the logical building you're doing.
