Should be fine, I've only got 3gb ram and I can run it smoothly, without any real fps issues.

You need a video card for one, also what clock speed is your CPU, its measured in GHZ.
On that note you might just want to get a dxdiag report.
If he didn't have a graphics card he would not be able to see anything. I will assume you meant to say for him to get a discrete graphics card compared to a integrated one?

Integrated graphics aren't really considered a video card, they're integrated graphics. But yes if you want to put it that way, he needs an actual card not built into the mobo that has some ounce of performance.
And he wouldn't see anything because it wouldn't even boot the OS without any video hardware, if it even passes POST.
I had no lag before the update to beta though? So why cant I even move because of the amount of Lag?
The update is bugged basically, kind of an unrelated issue, i was just curious the specs on your PC in regards to your FPS before the update. Hopefully within the next day or two Notch will fix whatever bugs he made and the 'lag' will go back to what it was.
