So for months, I had been playing the free version on the website. I finally got the paid version and I have to admit, it's a great game, but it's missing one feature I've come to love in the free version: Setting spawn points and being able to instantly warp to them.
In the free version, the worlds are never that big and so it's not all that useful. However, in the paid version the worlds seem almost infinitely huge! It's quite easy to become lost, or, if you're not careful, fall into a cave with no way out and no way to see. Even if you have torches, you have to set them down in order to get light from them, so you're limited in that ability if you wish to explore without backtracking to pick up a trail of torches.
What I am suggesting is to have the ability to set your spawn point, even if it's limited to being tied to a specific object you can place, and then later being able to teleport back to this spawn if you get stuck or lost. In addition, I think it would be great if simply holding a torch would give you a small field of light in order to navigate and explore caves and such, without being required to place them on the ground/walls.
It would also be nice if torches themselves could be used to set things on fire. It really doesn't make sense that a burning stick is incapable of setting things on fire :tongue.gif:
This will probably never happen because it's a survival game. The only way I can see Notch implementing it is if he adds magic to create gate stones you can put down.

But you don't HAVE to play survival mode.
I prefer to play in peaceful mode and just explore and build, especially since after playing on normal and spending 3 hours constructing a modest hut, the first night came and a creeper just killed me and destroyed everything I worked to make with one explosion. :sad.gif:
I highly doubt notch would put in spawn points that you can instantly warp to, because what if your being attacked by a and your just about to die, do you just warp back to your spawn point and save your belongings? That is why i doubt that spawn points would be made.

They could be made so they only work while in Peaceful difficulty. You don't get attacked in peaceful mode; at least as far as I've seen.

Except for slimes, they spawn on peaceful, at least i think so, but i have seen slimes before on peaceful.
If not spawnpoints/teleportation what if there was a tool that automatically mapped places you've explored? You could open the map and see where you've been and be able to find your way home. Right now, I am just making my own analogue maps on paper, but it's not easy.
There are various tools you can use to change the position of your character if you're lost as well as tools to map your whole infdev map. It's at the mapping/modding section on forums. There are also many tools there for people (me) who likes playing on survival as if it's an improved version of creative.
You can create a flint + steel tool to set things on fire.
I know you can craft flint & steel, but from the logical point of view, torches should also be able to set fire. Every other aspect of the game (well maybe not the monsters :tongue.gif:) makes logical sense to it's real world counter-part.
And thanks for the information about the mapping tools. I will check that out :smile.gif:
