Your sword broke in the wilderness, but you don't want to make another crafting table.
Or a creeper blew up a part of your slab scaffolding. You're high up and you don't want to bother getting down.
Or you dropped your bowl into lava, and you can't make any more mushroom stew.
I want to introduce the Saw -a simple utiliy that allow you to craft simple items on the run. The saw is used as a crafting ingredient, and loses durability every use. It has 50 uses. It is crafted so.
The tool has several categories of uses.
Slab Making :
The first is cutting blocks into slabs. The materials and the results are the same, but the three blocks are used in a shapeless recipe with the saw.
->
->
Container Making :
Bowls and buckets are useful, but only craftable with a table. Also flowerpots.
Random Crap Making :
Some random crap you might make, but have to be organized in an annoying fashion. Please note that these are not shapeless. Try to figure out what the stuff stands for!
Why Minecraft mobs should NEVER have multiple attacks:
- No other PC mobs do. - Mob behaviour is intended to be simple.
Why you should NOT name new "special ability" weapons as "XXX Swords":
- No other swords have special abilities. - Make a new kind of weapon.
I don't understand what this thing is. It's an item that is used as a crafting ingredient (according to you) yet has durability? That doesn't make sense at all.

Every time you craft something with it, it uses a use.

Keeping a "saw" in your inventory is the same as keeping a crafting table and takes up the same amount of space. I see no need for this. No support.

I means that it survives the crafting, but loses durablity- so, like how you get a bucket back when crafting cake, just w/out durability.
Not sure.... I suppose I support!
Your sword broke in the wilderness, but you don't want to make another crafting table. Because trees are legendary with rarity.
Or a creeper blew up a part of your slab scaffolding. Tragic. Use something else since it is only scaffolding.
You're high up and you don't want to bother getting down. Water bucket?
Or you dropped your bowl into lava, and you can't make any more mushroom stew. Who accidentally drops a bowl into lava? ...Who uses stew when adventuring?
I want to introduce the Saw -a simple utility that allow you to craft simple items on the run. Formally known as a Crafting Table.
The saw is used as a crafting ingredient, and loses durability every use. It has 50 uses. It is crafted so. A durability-based Crafting Table that is more expensive....
The tool has several categories of uses.

I don't know if the Saw is a good name, but it's all I have right now. Thanks for reading.
Responses in bold red.
As stated above, Crafting Tables are a lot easier to make and use.
10 seconds and placing/breaking is not difficult.
(Also, bowls and wooden slabs would conflict when crafted.)
No support.
Crafting tables are significantly more useful and less expensive. While I think you might be able to turn this into a good idea somehow, right now, it's not a good idea at all.
Get rid of durability and change the Iron to Cobblestone and I might (might) support.

There are things known as the 10 Suggestion Commandments. Many know the obvious, such as, "Thou shalt search before typing thy post," or, "Thou shalt not be vague," but one that no one knows is, "Thou shalt organize thy post." More people need to know of this commandment.
I have to agree with the other people - this suggestion is not worthwhile addition to MineCraft. It adds unnecessary complexity to a very simply process. No support.

Riiiiight. Because it's very difficult to find one wooden log to turn into that crafting table. You know, because trees are so scarce is Minecraft.
No support!
