Currently the minecraft skybox only covers about half of the world.
See how the stars get cut off near the edge of the generated chunks? It just turns into blackness there.
It's even more noticeable when you're using a custom skybox (Shown here with Misa Realistic skies)
So the skybox should just surround the entire world so that you will see the entire sky no matter what height you are at.

No support. When you are really high, such as Y-255 at night time, you will see the sky box clearly under you.
How often are people at y255? More often than not you are a lot lower. The tallest towers barely scrape that night.

Even at y 150-200, blocks at y 60~ would start disappearing. That will produce a really ugly effect.
Can't imagine the effect would be worse than this.
Besides, I'm sure there are workarounds for that.

That is simply your world not loading all the chunks, bit over exaggerated there.
This is with most chunks loaded and at a pretty high height for me:
A simple fix for this would be having more fog, instead of making your world look like it is an asteroid in space.
You still have a massive and ugly gap between the world and the skybox.

in the form of fog, could make things prettyer, but in my opinion the border must stay.
Why must it stay? You just said that it would make things prettier.

I'm game with this, and think it's a better solution too, but I wouldn't care if it never gets "fixed" either (after all, it is a "game").
