What he said. If you think something is too easy, then make it hard on yourself. With no armor, stone swords and a regular bow, minecraft can actually be pretty challenging, especially the nether.
Next time you suggest something, please re-read your text, break it up and make it easier for us to understand you. Also, be a little more specific with each suggestion.
Turn on hard difficulty and stop drinking potions of fire resistance. Living in the nether might seem easy with good gear... but one slip into lava and you would post begging for an easier Nether. No support.
no it isn't, all the stats for enemies there were built around players wearing no armor, with a stone sword, and a bow from before the adventure update, and no hunger.
the nether is horribly balanced because it hasn't been changed in ages.
The Wither skeletons were created way after the adventure update, so were the magma cubes and the nether strongholds. So don't act like the Nether hasn't been touched since then. Minecraft isn't just a fighting game, nor is it a horror game, nor is it a strategy game, its a sandbox game. Its a game for all ages and all people. If they make a certain environment too scary, too difficult, too chaotic and too crazy, Minecraft will lose a lot of popularity.
so.... to make the nether hard you have to be either a complete idiot or just blind?, come on, i'd understand if netherrack had slippery ice physics, but it's just normal red blocks, that have a heavy contrast with lava, so it's not like you can somehow not notice the lava because of similarly colored ground.
it's not that hard, you just need a bow and one working eye.
You are being completely bias. I actually think the Nether is at a good difficulty. The only thing I would want to see change is updated land generation.
Its actually quite easy to fall into lava. I've seen many places with a 1 block opening to a 50 block drop into lava. And if you play around, ghasts will destroy the nether that you walk on...causing me to fall into fire and lava many times.
So if you really are playing in the nether on hard difficulty with limited supplies/weapons and are still finding it to be easy, then good for you, you must be skilled. But, you aren't the majority. And playing without armor isn't being dumb, its challenging yourself to be more smart about every move.

Indeed, those things have been added, but for whatever reason they are still balanced around an unarmored player with a stone sword and a bow. Magma cubes are pathetically easy, wither skeletons are easily shot to death and aren't terribly difficult in melee combat, and blazes are easy to dodge (especially if you have basic cover, like the walls of the fortress they reside in) due to their predictable firing pattern and take so long to fire that you can easily rush up to them and kill them.

Yes, Minecraft is a sandbox game, for all ages and players.
Why, then, why is it that there is very little in the game for the fighters, adventurers, and survivors? Hard difficulty is nowhere near hard enough for those who love fighting, adventure, and survival. If hard and normal difficulties were made harder, then the people who don't like that level of difficulty can play on Easy. Simple as that.
As for scary... well, the Overworld is pretty damn scary for children as-is, mostly due to the "nothing is scarier" factor that creepers and to a lesser extent other mobs have. At least in the Nether you'll know that you're in a hostile environment and likely to be attacked at any moment (or you would be if 95% of the mobs outside netherforts weren't neutral).
Its actually quite easy to fall into lava. I've seen many places with a 1 block opening to a 50 block drop into lava.
If you see them, it's kinda obvious that you shouldn't walk there. You kinda just proved his point there, as long as you aren't blind or goofing off you won't fall into lava in the Nether (barring ghasts).
And if you play around, ghasts will destroy the nether that you walk on...causing me to fall into fire and lava many times.
Obvious solution: don't play around. It's hell, for pete's sake.
Most of the time, though, I find that ghasts rarely ever blow up enough stone to create a hole through the ground. More often than not, the netherrack is over five blocks thick, and a ghast's fire charges don't exactly deal much damage.
So if you really are playing in the nether on hard difficulty with limited supplies/weapons and are still finding it to be easy, then good for you, you must be skilled. But, you aren't the majority.
There are a lot more people like him, hence why the Nether (and the rest of the game for that matter, barring parts of the surface of the Overworld) need to be made harder on hard and normal difficulty. Not in the way this guy intends, since what the OP is suggesting wouldn't make things much better, but it still needs to be done.
And playing without armor isn't being dumb, its challenging yourself to be more smart about every move.
It's a ridiculous self-imposed challenge that only serves to cut down on the already-poor progression in order to make the difficulty of the game not pitifully low. A game like Minecraft, which should appeal to as many people as possible, should not require players to impose challenges on themselves or download mods if they find the base game too easy on the hardest difficulty.

That would be because the entire game is balanced around such a player (well, the overworld drops the bow since it's almost always easy to hit things in melee combat there, but what have you). The difficulties of Minecraft are actually as difficult as they say they are when you play like that. Maybe even a bit harder than that, due to the people who complained about the low difficulty and Mojang trying to make the game harder without actually understanding why the game is and was too easy. But the higher tiers, even iron, imbalance the game to the point where all the difficulties are easy for anybody that even half knows what they are doing.
The only thing that isn't balanced around an unarmored guy with a stone sword and possibly a bow is the Wither. But he's just a regular mob balanced around an extremely well-equipped player rather than an actual challenge. It's (nigh?) impossible to beat him with low-tier gear unless you cheese his AI and fight him in a two-block-high space (he does not do a very good job of eating through large amounts of blocks to get to you).
I think that the nether should be harder, at the moment it is easier than the over world (No common hostile mob, ghasts are weak and never hit the player (unlike skeletons) Magma cubes are rare and not very strong and blazes/wither skeletons are only in the fortresses (And wither skeletons are easy to kill with a bow and blazes are harmless if you drink a fire resistance potion))

All of what you suggested is pretty much opinion based. This topic is not thought out at all.
Take off the armour, crank it up to HARD, and then come back here.
Stay fluffy~

The Nether has practically no hostile mobs.
Remind me why the Minecraft community cannot comprehend anything more complicated than clicking a button.
