That still won't fix the problem entirely, unless they make it so the jockeys can't dismount. Because now they can, and then you still have chickens running around in caves. It will take longer, but the same problem will still happen. I see this happen when the chicken jockeys are in water. Eventually the jockey dismounts, and then you have a baby zombie and a chicken.
The chicken jockey needs to be an entity unto itself, not a combination of 2 entities.
But honestly, until they can come up with a proper solution, I say get rid of 'em too. Or at least make it a user definable option, so those who don't want them can eliminate them.
And give us a fix NOW! Why do we have to wait for the next update? There have been a bunch of minor updates, and we still have this nonsense! This is a problem now. I've got caves full of egg carrying zombies in my world, and I'm getting tired of X-raying to seek them out just to clean up Mojang's mess.
Yeah this is a little more than a minor problem. It brought my new Intel i5 computer to it's knees. I had the render distance down to 2 chunks and it was still lagging like crazy and was unplayable. It wasn't until I started digging out an area for a mob grinder that I found this and figured out what was going on. Once I killed them all off Minecraft was smooth as butter again on the maximum settings.
Ok this picture just proves that mojang SERIOUSLY needs to fix this problem. I am on board for this idea.
The chicken only lays eggs when you are near it to do so. It isn't a constant. Also the easy fix is just to kill the chicken. I don't get your issue.
Chickens lay eggs, if the chunk they are in is loaded! It does not matter how far away they are, if it is loaded they lay eggs.
All mojang has done is ensure chickens despawn with its rider. That however does not mean any chicken that happens to fall into a cave will not cause the same problem! One chicken in one bad spot, (where mobs get stuck naturally) and you will still get the problem.
You get a place where mobs collect but some die, leaving zombie flesh.. and you can still get the same problem, a slow build up of zombies holding zombie flesh. It would be a much much rarer occurrence as it also needs to be a players base where a player spends some time, but it can still happen. At least special drops (armour, weapons) only happens if the player kills the mob.
Zombies should not pick up eggs (or zombie flesh), if that means they only can pick up armour and weapons (sticks?), so be it.
At least that will stop any such build up, unless intentionally set up that way though player interaction.

Critiquing is easy. Creating is difficult.
I have a new account called "Mushroomsock" now, so please do not send me PMs.

The problem is chicken spawning in caves around you. In places you haven't been, so you can't kill the chicken
