Hi everyone. I am new to Minecraft so forgive me if there is something I am missing. I am looking for good feedback. I know this type of post has floated around countless times before so let us try our best to be unique.
The symbol of Minecraft is the creeper. Everywhere I go I see it. It's on shirts, umbrellas, backpacks, and wallets. What attracted me to the game though was a picture of the enderman. It is still my favorite monster to date. I love the look and the idea of it, so it got me thinking of a new type of mob. This is very general information and my hope was that you guys could add on to it since two heads are better than one. Details:
1. Comes out at night 2. It is quick and stealthy 3. It is hard to spot (preferably a dark color to make this possible) (purple is my choice) 4. Has the ability to wield tools or do something to a structure if agitated 5. Plain looks great in 16 bit
I like how a lot of the monsters are unique in the game. I feel this one would be unique as well. The conundrum I am running into is how it would do anything to structures that hasn't been thought of before. The creeper blows up, and the enderman takes blocks. I was thinking it could alter the structure somehow and change the blocks. It could turn wool into stone and vice versa, but on a wider scale than the enderman. Maybe 5 or 6 blocks change instead of one. As you may have guessed already in my head the monster would have an aura about them and posses some sort of dark magic. If you like this sort of idea feel free to expand on it or change it completely. Whatever you guys think would be awesome or creative I would love to hear them.
Here is a picture to show you in my head what I was thinking of. All credit goes to bear65.deviantart.com for drawing this beautifully accurate picture of the image in my head. (Some changes would have to be made to make this look fantastic in 16 bit so give me some suggestions. Hopefully this gets heard.)
Rereading this post I feel I need to add a few things:
It would be rare first of all. I picture him being a type of mob that when you see it you get excited or surprised. They wouldn't spawn in groups and they would spawn randomly throughout the world. I picture it spawning more often in the jungle biome as well. It seems to make it more mysterious and harder to see since there is more cover around. I picture it being hunched over and running sort of like a wolf as well. The nether idea sounds great, but I feel like it would be slightly overlooked. It might be just me, but I spend a lot more time outside the nether than in it. That would be a great way to explain its origin however. On the other hand it would be a great encouragement for people to get in the nether more. It could also encourage more world exploration. It would just have to be worthwhile killing, which brings me to my next point. I am not sure on what it should drop. A new item would be highly encouraged or necessary in my opinion. Having an item which gives a cosmetic change would be perfect. It removes the need to fix any problems a new item would have in building or pvp. It isn't necessary to get and go out of your way for, but it is a perfect reward for people willing to do just that. It highly encourages world exploration which is a little stale at the moment.
If you want to drastically oversimplify it like that I guess so. I was pointing out how I picture it running. It isn't elegant in its stride but it is fast moving and savage. It is a completely different mob than a ware wolf as well. Think about what you are saying sir. Apples to oranges.
Hmm, this sparks ideas of my own. Creepers explode, Endermen pick up, the Ender Dragon phases through and destroy, the Wither chews blocks up. What about corruption? Like you said, some kind of aura around the beast that turns blocks into different ones.
How about trying to add onto the End 'lore' and make the new mob based in that dimension?
A little critter with a huge, gaping maw, Ender particles coming out of it and dark, purple skin. These creatures come from the End, which once was a world much like the Overworld (or Minecraftia, whatever floats your boat :P) but due to their mere presence the world was corrupted and turned into Enderstone. The Enderbeasts consumed the Enderstone (which is why it's a small island now) while the Endermen (capable of dimensional travel) scout for new worlds to corrupt. Once you open the End portal you've opened the gates for these Enderbeasts to infest the Overworld and you'll start to see them every once in a while. Most of the time you'll find lone spots of Enderstone where they have started the corruption.
This is merely a base concept, I could get a lot more involved than this.
This would also add to the lore of Minecraft and add storytelling elements without forcing a story. It also adds a reason for the End to exist.
Sooo... A werewolf coloured black that can swap blocks for other blocks? That is all I could really understand out of this.
I did think of ware wolves when I drew some inspiration out of this monster. I am glad you picked that up , but you are missing something key and unique. It is more a creature of dark and mysterious power. It draws off magic. This is meant to have a distinct sort of darker flavor to it than most monsters.
hmm, how big would it be?, i think a perfect attack for it would be lifting you up with it's arms, screaming into your face (loud and freaky, heard from 100 blocks away, but gets quieter after 50 blocks unlike ghasts), and then pulling you apart for an instant kill, you can hit it a lot to escape and break free.
I LOVE that idea. I would love to see that in place and it is such a unique and cool way to vanquish this big guy :D. I feel he would be about 2 or 3 blocks high standing up.

I wouldn't mind a mob that killed off plant life. Such as turning grass to dirt, forcing leaf blocks to decay, halting the growth of crops, turning flowers into dead shrubs. etc. That would simulate corruption but would still be easily repairable, it would also add to some eeriness coming across 'dead spots' in the world while exploring, and then, even while fighting one, the grass and flowers dieing as it walks on them, that just makes you feel uneasy.

I like that idea. That would add another element of eeriness that would otherwise be non existent. So far you guys have amazing feedback and you just keep adding more creative and deeper layers to the monster I couldn't dream of thinking of. I still think the idea of corrupting a block AS WELL as plant life would be great. Having a monster that would give hours of speculation and meaning to the nether would be an incredible plus. If there was a way to implement both of them I think this would be excellent. I really do love the idea of having it corrupt the ground it walks on.
I could whip up a few sketches about its looks if you want. But I imagine this beast with a seemingly short, hunched over stature walking on all fours, a knuckle-walker (like a gorilla) but wolf or tiger like in its walking cycle, graceful yet savage. Would you dare to look at it the Enderbeast would do like their Endermen brethren and stare you down. Avert your gaze and it'll run after you, fast at that. Once it gets close enough it'll rear up on its hind legs, revealing its true stature (this is based on what SVGK said, as I love the idea) of 2-3 blocks tall. Once it gets a hold of you it won't let go. Nicknamed very appropriately "the Consumer" it'll try to devour you whole unless you manage to inflict it enough damage. About as tough as an Enderman it will take several hits with a diamond sword to vanquish it (which is fair since you have to have visited the End to find them), but to make up for its swift- and toughness the damage would be equal to suffocation/drowning, giving you around 8 or so seconds to kill it. Since they can't teleport they're subject to arrows, but if you're ever surprised by one you won't have enough time to draw your bow. Aside from being aggro'd from a glimpse, if you get too close to their Enderstone patch they'll aggro as well. As for drops, I haven't come up with anything yet.
"Player was eaten by an Enderbeast" in reference to "was eaten by a Grue".

The idea sounds great and I like what you have done with the monster. The name "Enderbeast" would be suitable. I agree that SVGK's idea was perfect. I also like the fact that it's maw would be the consumer of you instead of the arms ripping you apart a little more. It seems like it fits the monster better. I think the combat element is appropriate for the most part as well. For the loot as I said earlier I feel it should be more cosmetic but I am open to well thought out and awesome suggestions as I know you guys will provide. My idea for the drops would be a corrupted ember or something which you can keep in your bags to make your armor burst in purple flame. I feel there should be more than just this so please if you have any suggestions it would be great.
i disagree, it shouldn't be spawning in the end, i think the end should stay just mostly empty with just endermen, i don't like the idea of another ender monster, and the nether desperately needs a new mob that is actually strong.
i think just killing plant life, being 5 blocks tall standing up (2 or three seems too small to fit the images shown) and being naturally aggressive and fighting by tearing you apart is the way to go, spawning semi-commonly in the nether, and very rarely in the overworld.
we don't need a mob that uses the same mechanic as endermen, that is just lazy.
also, it shouldn't be purple, seems too endery, maybe black with very dark bluish fur.
You know what SVGK I think you are right. I originally put 5 or 6 blocks. The purple hue seems fitting, but it might take away some uniqueness. Maybe Black with blue tint?. However as I said earlier I would prefer if It was NOT in the nether PRIMARILY I really do like the idea of it being a rare overworld spawn. I do think however they should spawn in the nether, but not award the same loot do to it being corrupted or something of that nature. Rethinking the combat aspect I think it should be somewhat tighter a timer to kill you. maybe 5 or 6 seconds instead of 8 so you really have to be on ball. (in the nether) They could be stronger in the nether due to some type of realm shifting.
You guys are beginning to loose sight of the monster. I disagree with the enderman gaze mechanic. I think the block idea would be much more fitting. I can't say I have changed my mind on the arms ripping you apart, but I will continue to think about it. The spawning is an issue we have to think about a little more. If you are lazy with ideas on this monster it won't turn out well. That is the whole point of this thread. If game developers are lazy or impatient then their game turns out bad. just like everything else. So I love how you guys are being creative and unique. I just disagree with the gazing mechanic. I should have mentioned that ealier. You have a good idea with the blocks and are on to something though
I am not a programmer so I am not sure if they could do this, but I was thinking about it more. We could have the best of both worlds. It doesn't make any sense for him to take about 5 or 6 seconds just to put you in his mouth. What is he doing, preparing the meal? I think it would be cool if he could rip you in two pieces then with one hand stuff half of you down his mouth and with the other hand do the same. I really doubt they could implement this to say the least so I would be willing to settle with the ripping you apart thing. It seems to make the most sense in taking a few seconds to really kill you. As much as I like the idea of him eating you it doesn't seem to make as much sense. This would be a unique and interesting way for him to kill you. As for the drops I agree they would be quite tough in packs and I think the drops should be talked about a little more as well. The challenge with creating a drop for these is if it isn't cosmetic it runs the risk of breaking things. If it is cosmetic and easy enough to obtain then it looses it uniqueness and value. On the subject of combat again due to the tight timer you have to kill him before he kills you it would be impractical to eat. This is my only gripe with the monster so far. If they were to be in packs (which I think would be almost non existent in the overworld, but not in the nether) you would have to combat them with a potion. On the other end this at least provides some reliability and the expectation of when to bring potions.
No support, endermen match all of the specifications that you made except for wielding tools. You said it would be unique, but all we have at the moment is an enderman with a sword or a pick.

Oh no, they wouldn't spawn in the End. When you open the End portal they start spawning in the Overworld. They've already consumed most of the End, so they want to move to another world as fast as possible. That's merely a way to turn them into end-game mobs like Blazes and Wither Skeletons (and it adds some neat storytelling). They'd have to be very, very rare to justify them spawning from the start, or very easily avoidable. You have to consider balance. The Enderman is ridiculously hard until you get decent equipment, but that's balanced out by the fact that they're decently rare and you have to look at them. Instead of making them aggro'd by default they could be highly territorial like I also suggested. Get close to their Endstone and they'll attack.
Insta-kill attacks are too cheap and highly frustrating. There would have to be ample time and indicators before you die, but even still it's not a good mechanic, especially not if it attacks just because you got close enough. A DoT attack would still do the same thing as the insta-kill, but with a very clear indicator whether you're ok or not. Plus, if you get out in time you'll be hurt instead of perfectly healthy. The OP said he wanted a fast, nimble creature that's stealthy, and a 5 block tall beast does not invoke that at all (plus it would be super easy to do the "2 high gap and attack the feet" strategy you kill Endermen with). A smaller, cat-/dog-like build (or even a small humanoid) would be a lot better since you have to fight it fair and square like a zombie or a pigman, it can go wherever you can. And it's a lot harder to hit. Then when it gets close it stand upright and becomes 3-4 blocks tall (it's still a really tall mob) so it can lift you off the ground to eat you.

You know those sandworms common in fiction? I was picturing it having one of those mouths with several rows of teeth. It would try to fit the mouth around you so it could dissolve your body. And that's why it takes time before you die as well as why you take damage over time. Your vision would be blocked since its mouth is all around you, but in return you can just swing anywhere and hit it.
Another thing worth experimenting with is some good ol' magical powers. Instead of it eating you it would use some kind of magic that draws you closer to it (a tractorbeam), making it impossible to escape. Once you're next to the beast it would slash at you or something like that.
Hi everyone. I am new to Minecraft so forgive me if there is something I am missing. I am looking for good feedback.
Sorry, but this is not the place for that. We aren't here to give good feedback, we're here to give accurate feedback. With not knowing very much about it, I can't support. But right now, it seems like a cheap knock-off of an enderman. Sorry man, but for now, no support.Edit:
I know you added a picture, but that isn't enough. Some people's computers (like mine) have some add blocker thing. I can't see the picture. You need to describe it for people who can't see the picture.
Hey buddy, welcome to the forums! This suggestion is great and all, but just for future information, this has been suggested bef- just kidding. This is a great original idea! I like this much, and you also started mentioning other things. You can edit the existing post you made, the first part you did, then, copy and paste or type new things into the original first post, because I noticed you mentioned stuff that you wanted it to have but you didn't add it to the main suggestion. Just to help out . I support this though, and your friend did a GREAT job on that art!
What is it's name? What does it look like? How much damage does it do?

Thanks for the pointing some things like that out. When I said "good" feedback that is exactly what I meant. I wanted accurate and creative feedback for the monster. People seem to be giving the monster the name "Enderbeast". I like that and I think it seems like it would be a good enough name but I am always wanting to hear more suggestions. For the damage We were discussing it earlier, but I think since it is a channeled ability it should damage you for about 1 heart per second and after 5 or 6 seconds provide an instant kill if you are not already dead. To get out of his grasp you need to smack him in the face to stun him when he picks you up. Once he is stunned you'll have some time to eat or use a potion if needed. I understand this design has a few problems to it however. For example if you are already at low health and he catches you off guard you are neck deep in water and are pretty much dead. I am thinking of some ways around this at the moment. If you have suggestions please bring them forward. I also forgot to mention that I was thinking about giving him 15 or so hearts and the defense level of having iron armor.

I know you added a picture, but that isn't enough. Some people's computers (like mine) have some add blocker thing. I can't see the picture. You need to describe it for people who can't see the picture.

"Wake me, when you need me."
Thanks for the kind words and good suggestions. I'll begin updating the original post in a couple of hours. Thanks for supporting me.
