Hello, thank you for reading. Basically, in the 1.7 update, their is a new block, Podzol, which can only be found in the Mega Taiga biome. Currently Podzol can only be collected with silk touch, similar to grass blocks and mycelium. However, unlike those two blocks, Podzol does not spread onto adjacent dirt blocks. I think it would be a nice addition if Podzol could spread to other dirt blocks, otherwise there is a finite supply of the block, which is compounded by the fact that Mega Taiga biomes are rather rare.Thoughts? Support? Tweaks?
There is a finite supply of grass and dirt and mycelium too.
No there isn't, since you can spread it to dirt. I know technically dirt is finite, but practically speaking it's infinite because of how much dirt is found in any one chunk.
Appreciate the support from everyone so far, hopefully we can bring this to the attention of Mojang and they'll consider changing it.
I imagine podzol would be like a mush of decomposing leaves and faeces. It isn't plant growth.

Why Minecraft mobs should NEVER have multiple attacks:
- No other PC mobs do. - Mob behaviour is intended to be simple.
Why you should NOT name new "special ability" weapons as "XXX Swords":
- No other swords have special abilities. - Make a new kind of weapon.
No support. Podzol is a type of soil. The texture itself resembles dead leaves. So either way, it doesn't make sense that it would spread naturally.
Minecraft is not a game based on realism though. The lack of gravity physics for almost every block is proof of that. What harm is there if podzol spreads? It's not going to spread on it's own, as it's surrounded by grass blocks or the unspreadable dirt blocks.
The player is already able to build floating stone platforms, and other impossible structures, is having a compost soil spread such a stretch of imagination?

Support, even though it's not "realistic", Minecraft isn't supposed to be exactly like real life anyway, and it's something that would improve the aspects of the game more important than realism.
It's not Mojang's problem - it's your problem. It's like saying that cracked stone brick should spread to stone, because it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. It isn't even about realism.

It's not "my problem", it's just something I think would be a beneficial change to the game. So I'm suggesting it, that's what this forum is for. Most people seem to support the idea.

Perhaps a poll would shed better light on this claim?

I actually meant that it wasn't Mojang's bad decision (a problem), and that it was your own opinion (it's only your problem).
A poll?

This is why I would like to see Podzol being able to spread, it has nothing to do with realism, but improving the usefulness of the block, and allowing more freedom in the survival game to build and design roads/buildings etc with the Podzol block. Thanks for your support.
I have a question to those who rightly point out that podzol is essentially compost, and not a living organism, and therefore shouldn't spread. What if it only could spread to dirt block in the Mega Taiga biome? That way it's essentially just being reformed after the previous layer is removed?
I personally would still like it to just spread like grass does, but I wonder what some of the opponents feel about that.
support! i really dont care what podzol is made out of
Stop thinking of what it is IRL :/ (directed tword posters)
matter of fact! podzol doesnt even exist IRL.
I like the Idea of it spreading. silk touch is rare enough which balances the infinity of the block.
plus the durability on your silk touch item can run out so you no longer have silk touch wich also evens out its infinity.
Support.

i quit
You can have your own mushroom farm now in a mega taiga without having to look for a mushroom biome.
Support, although Minecraft is not based on realism.
lol but you still need to find the mushroom biome to get mycelium. Thanks for the support

all in all, support! not to OP
That is an cool idea, that would make podzol farming more interesting.
