You are probably coming on here thinking that this is a incredibly OP idea involving big dragons that can kill any mobs in one hit and never take damage. But you are wrong. Or at least I hope you are. But I think this idea is better ;).
How to Hatch the Ender Dragon baby:
Place the egg on top of an active furnace. Within 10 minecraft days, a baby will come out. That baby will automatically be in the sitting position, so the only way to know whether your baby hatched is by checking the room in which the furnace is in.
After That...:
Unsit the baby and he will follow you around. Just like other pets, he will teleport next to you when you have gone a designated area away from him. He looks like a tiny version of the Ender Dragon.
What he does:
He provides companionship like a cat or dog. Like a dog he fights mobs, but doesn't do too much -- he deals 1 heart of damage per hit, and he hits every 2 seconds. Like a dog, he will attack anything you attack, or anything that attacks you. Unlike a dog, he has the balls to attack creepers, which isnt a good thing -- he has pretty much no chance of killing creepers (or any other hostile mob) without human intervention. His other "power" is that when he is within 5 blocks of you, Enderman that you stare at do not become hostile. But if you strike one they will attack you as normal.
But what if he dies -- you would loose your one and only souvenir of killing the Ender Dragon!:
I was just getting there -- when he has one heart left, he teleports back to the furnace in which he spawned from. If the furnace no longer exists, then he teleports next to the bed in which the player last slept in. He takes no damage while teleporting, and recharges health instantly one he reaches the furnace. So its more or less impossible for him to die. However if you don't want him to teleport back to your furnace, then just feed him one Ender Pearl -- it recharges his life, and lessens the possibility that he will have to retreat. Also, see "Dude, what about people that wanna keep the egg?!:"
He can't die? Dude that's so OP!:
It would be if he could kill monsters in one shot, but he cannot. In fact he's pretty useless, besides companionship. So its not actually OP, especially considering how hard it is to get one.
Dude, what about people that wanna keep the egg?!:
When he hatches, you will find 3 egg pieces on the ground -- using the 3 pieces and 3 clay, you can visually recreates the egg. But no more dragons can hatch from it -- its an empty egg.
Dude, its so hard to get!:
That's the point...
Dude...it would be 10x more epic if he was a 50 foot dragon!
That my friends is called OP...
Anyways that pretty much sums it up. Hope you guys like!

This seems like it would defeat the purpose of a dog...
and actully this idea HAS been Suggested before,
Sadly, (and growing more common) this is a post I did'nt have to read,
except to check your idea,

1: It wouldnt, because dogs are different animals then Baby Dragons and even deal more damage. Not to mention that dogs are fairly useless in the first place.
2: Pretty sure it hasnt been suggested like this before but if it has then my bad.

I'd also refrain from saying things like "my idea isn't overpowered" because someone could step in and prove you wrong. I'll say though, it's a lot more balanced than the other ideas where people go "omgg we can hatch and ride themmmmm!!! ♥"
The fact that this companion can't die is still overpowered, and it's basically a permanent wolf that does less damage, but could do more anyway if you used a splash strength potion on it. Sorry, no support.
The only reason I made it invincible is because I dont think people would like their Ender keepsake killed, but if you guys really think it shouldnt be invincible I will change it.

Which is a really bad idea. Supporting anything blindly because it has the word "dragon" in it is like supporting anything that a specific person says, regardless of the consequences. Judge ideas and on their own merit, not for a buzz word.
The idea is actually okay. The two problems, as other people mentioned, is that there is only one egg, and that the mob is invincible. But those are relatively easy fixes. Instead of the Ender Dragon Egg being obtainable from defeating the Ender Dragon, you change it so after the egg appears, the first player to get close to it will cause it to emit lights similar to the Ender Dragon when it is destroyed, then a baby Ender Dragon appears from it and flies away.
From then on, Baby Ender Dragons have a relatively rare chance of spawning in the End, and if you defeat it it will drop an egg that you can use to make your own pet. However, you cannot pick up more than one egg at a time, and you cannot pick up an egg if you have a Baby Ender Dragon already. That prevents people from having multiple eggs, although you can farm for them one at a time with an Ender Chest or by getting one egg, then leaving the End and putting it in a chest or something. They still do make good decorations after all.
That fixes the problem with only one person being able to have one, and then you can just make so they can be killed. You lose yours and you just need to go back and get another one.

I think it is just sad that there is one dragon that is majestic and had a lot of work but yet you have to kill it.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that who cares? He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
this topic is useless, Notch announced that Tamable Dragons might me added to Minecraft. in other words RED DRAGONS! and they grow in the Dragon Eggs, which you will be able to get!

This makes absolutely no sense. First of all, you need to give a source on something like that. Right now you have no proof. However, according to the Red Dragon page on the wiki, it states that Jeb was asked about them at MineCon 2012, and said that Red Dragons were a low priority due to the amount of coding it would take for them to work with the terrain without destroying it. [1]
Plus, not anywhere is it said that those dragons would be tamable IF they were added, Notch only said they would be "less dangerous". [2]
Finally, Notch isn't even working on Minecraft anymore. It would be just plain silly to assume that something he mentioned a very long time ago is still coming and an active work in progress when he isn't even developing the game anymore.

This seems decent though. Different from "a dwagon u can rode arond on n shoot fierballes thet spawen creeprs111!1"
With the whole invincible thing - no support. Though if you could somehow give life back to the egg to hatch, say with some sort of item with the empty egg that is put together and then rehatch it, though sort of what Badprenup said, you can have 1 at a time.
Invincible - No support. If you change that, full support from me.

This seems like pretty much the way to go. It could be a nice idea, though some do prize the egg as a trophy.

This would be unfair/balanced on servers due to there being 1 dragon egg.
You could disable it...
